Saw that Patrick Towles is on the Unitas Award watch list. Just curious as to what you guys think being that he could still be your QB.

Thrilled all parties have moved on...hope PT can make his transfer worthwhile (football wise) and win the starting job there.

I hope Barker turns out to be a good QB, though I'm cautious because we're hearing the same stuff we heard about Towles last year... confident, leader, completely different, etc.

Turns out Towles "confidence" last year was phony (he even sounded phony in interviews) and honestly, if we're gonna have a good football team, I don't think it will happen with a QB that's really into Harry Potter and is now dedicating/kidding around about the Zoo gorilla or whatever.

That said, hope he does well where he is now, but UK needs something different.

Towles was outplayed by a RS FR in their spring game. I don't know what he's done to deserve to be on any watch list. We're all very happy that he's found a new place to call home. He's had more than enough time to prove that he can be a competent QB and failed to do so

Wish the best for him, but he did lose his job to Drew Barker at the end of last season

I loved Towles but I think he had his opportunity and couldn't quite do what was needed in our offense. You just have to be able to hit receivers and backs on the underneath stuff and intermediate stuff in stride. When it is 3rd and three, you can't throw it behind your receiver and at their thighs.
Really love his arm strength and the fact that he worked hard to improve. I will root like hell for him and BC.
And I wanted to ***** slap all of the jackasses who constantly complained about how he "flipped his hair". Most ridiculous criticism I may have ever heard. To those who posted crap like that-yes, you're a moron.

I think Barker is naturally a more accurate passer and a lot of those short passes will move the chains.
It was a win-win for towles to move on. He is a UK alum and I wish him well.

Bad place for Stoops to be in. If Towles is a bust at BC, Stoops looks bad for defending and starting him over Barker and to a lesser extent Phillips. If he's great, (which I doubt) then Stoops and his lack of development questions that have shadowed him at UK become even stronger.

Stoops better hope Barker is good, gets a bowl bid, and Towles is average at BC. Not good or horrible, but just average.

That is valid- but I may argue that the competition in the ACC is not what it is in the SEC.

I wish Towles could have been coached by someone like Hinshaw for his entire college career. If he had, I think we might see a vastly different Towles out there today. The guy obviously has talent but when things start to go bad for him, they tend to go really bad and his confidence just plummets. Add in the fact that Dawson's schemes last season kept Towles in the crosshairs of opponents and it is no wonder why he lost his confidence.

I really think Towles could have excelled in a Gran/Hinshaw offense with enough time in the system. Instead, he was whipsawed by one change in system after another and less than stellar QB coaching. Then when you consider that Dawson's scheme required the OL to hold their blocks far longer than they could do against SEC quality competition and there is the final nail in that coffin. Towles became more and more gun shy as the season progressed and it finally became so mentally frustrating for him that he became ineffective. Hell, at least Neal Brown gave him the green light to scramble when things started to break down and he actually did pretty well in that capacity. Dawson was such a disaster. Yet it seems Towles was actually close to Dawson. Strange.

I hope Towles is brilliant, I really do. It was time for him to move on but that doesn't change my hopes for him. He is a Kentucky kid. I hope and pray that he explodes on the QB scene this year.

Eh, I don't think it will make Stoops look bad. I think most people understand Stoops didn't really have a choice but to play Towles. Maybe he played him a game or 2 too many but what was he really supposed to do? Barker looked like **** when he played too.

But he still didn't develop, as a matter of fact, he regressed. And that is worrisom....

A person's intelligence is inversely proportional to how impressed they are with a watchlist.

Congratulations to Towles for being one of 43 returning senior quarterbacks in college football.

Inversely, hypothetical.... If Shannon Dawson's Southern Miss team beats UK? Now what? But........Patty/potter was under OC Dawson's command!

Well, he lost it by default... we weren't going anywhere and Stoops just decided that he would go for a change... I think he done it at the wrong time, because those games that Barker played needs to be put out of his mind... Actually, I thought at the time that Towles had had a better chance to get us that extra win, but Stoops just decided to give up on Towles.... It wasn't what Barker did that the change was made, but just change for change....

Towles asked Brown to run him as soon as he possibly could. I think it got Towles into the game.

If you watched any practices last year Towles was often berated for running in practice.

If Drew runs how he did last year he will not last. The first game he got into against Mississippi State last year he ran very recklessly which resulted in a mild AC sprain, which ultimately kept him out for two weeks.

He needs to be more careful. I think it was about 3 years ago when only one or two SEC starters lasted the entire season because of injury.

The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is given annually in the United States to the nation's outstanding senior or fourth year quarterback in college football.

I would like to congratulate Towles for showing up to fall camp this year.

Not saying you're wrong but what are you basing that on? You haven't seen what the Gran/Hinshaw offense even looks like at Kentucky. I think you're making a big leap to declare that Towles would have excelled in their offense.

Well you are right, but on the other hand, I bet the winner of the Johnny U award will not lose his job for any reason...

Barker, reminds me of Woodson...freshmen year. Woodson turned our program around for a number of years, made it EXCITING! Stoops failed with Towles, but will succeed with Barker. Barker, has this drive, just like Woodson under Brooks

We might have a mini Gronk at TE, many athletic WR's, talented running backs, Boom, JoJo....experienced OL....our defense will keep us honest, like 07....

I mean, not really a debate I feel like. Regardless of how bad he was last year, he still has to be one of the top 43 senior QB's in the country, right? Lol.

Kind of a moot point though. Chad Kelly or J.T. Barrett will win it.

Well I guess now he's considered one of the best 16 senior QB's in the country after being one of the 16 selected on the watch list for the 2017 Senior Bowl in Mobile Alabama.

BC had one of the worst offenses in D1 last year. It's really hard to see how any QB could generate any type of serious stats there unless they have brought in several upgrades to their skill players.

That is a fact. And, they may not have as good a defense this season. Ouch.

He was a pretty terrible qb. He goes down with the Morgan Newton's in UK football history. Great person. Much like Morgan Newton. And you can't put all the blame on towles because he wasn't the one telling him to trot his way on the field every time we had the ball. Nothing he can do about the coaches putting him in. So really it wasn't his fault that the coaches kept playing him when he had zero business being out there with other SEC competitors. That being said. He had no business being on the field last season especially the 2nd half of the season. He's just a very very bad qb in all honesty. That's my opinion on the guy. As far as football goes. Terrible quarterback, but a good person. I was telling everyone before the season. Even at that time, that barker was a much better qb. Barker outplayed towles in camp last year. And for some reason we still went with towles because of experience even though he in no way earned the job over barker. Just a situation that was really difficult to understand. Just like most of the other decisions our coaches make. The one they made playing towles was a bad one, especially for as long as they kept him in. But terrible decision making by our coaches has become kind of the norm here.
