Moving the team but then throws an int .
How predictable. I bet he throws at least one more.
Or a baseball pitcher.Towles would probably be a good tight end.
Yep. Towles is a Kentucky kid. He quarterbacked important wins including Stoops' 1st SEC road win and Stoops' 1st win over a ranked team. He beat Steve Spurrier twice. Towles didn't stay for his senior year, but he still ranks #6 on University of Kentucky's career passing list. He did it last year working under the Stoops-Dawson turmoil. When Towles left, he made it clear that he is a Kentucky fan for life. Towles is throwing ropes and completing passes in the seams against GT. The TV analyst on the BC-GT broadcast just described Towles as a "tremendous physical talent who has a long way to go in the nuances of playing quarterback". What does that say about Shannon Dawson? Why did Darrin Hinshaw need to teach Drew Barker how to use his feet in the pocket? Why didn't Dawson do that? Every time Kentucky fans bash Towles, they are basically telling other quarterbacks to steer clear of Lexington. I fail to understand why Kentucky fans would speak vindictively or wish bad things for Towles. This is beneath us.I wish him well. Hope he has a good game. Seems like he is a good young person.

PT is a smart kid. He comes from a politically astute family. He knows the right thing to say and he does. I don't know of any UK fan who never said he was not prototypical physical specimen for QB. The questions surrounding him were always his ability to read, process, then execute against SEC defenses. He didn't get a lot of help from his coaching staff, WR's, and OL. So far his results with BC look like a mixed bag. Same old same old. As far as his success, I will be hurt if he has a Heisman type season because UK needs outstanding play at that position desperately. Also if Barker sucks or gets injured.Yep. This doesn't bode well for Stoops then because in 3 years he failed to realize that he needed a proven QB coach in addition to thinking he didn't need a ST coach either. he was very wrong on both accounts.
I am supporting Patrick Towles for what he did for us at Kentucky and wish him well! I think he is a good person from a good family, and he chose Boston College which is not chopped liver in academics and being in graduate school is probably pretty tough going in and of itself. That being said, I also support Stoops for making the decision that he made choosing Drew Barker as his quarterback, and I think it is going pay dividends by season's end beyond anybody wildest imaginations!Who you talkin at? I maybe have seen one Kentucky fan say something bad about him, and thats one of those dummies that makes a point of making that kind of post. Stop making mountain out of molehills. You make us look worse than any of these fictional mobs of Towles haters.
Also, Towles struggles had nothing to do with Dawson. He has a lot of faults, but Towles qb skills isn't one of them. From the minute he stepped on campus he was a huge work in progress. He had the weird throwing hitch that required him to redshirt and get intensive private lessons from qb coach off-season. It was such a rework that it doesn't stick through even one game.
I need a link or source where stoops says gran has always been the first choice. I've seen nothing to indicate that. He hired Dawson and he is clueless for it. He had his eyes set on Dawson and he got what he wanted. Someone who had never called plays at the D-1 level let alone a major conference before. He wanted someone just like him in a spot like he was in, both over one another's head. Stoops was like I need more inexperienced coaches around me so I can be the smartest one in the room! You are making the same point I have made for several years. All along, Stoops needed a dedicated quarterback coach. But conclusions reached by fans do not always take into account complexities faced by college coaches in a competitive world. In interviews, Stoops has said that Gran was always his 1st choice for offensive coordinator from the beginning. But Gran wasn't available until this year. Gran is a running back coach who believes in having a dedicated quarterback coach with him. Stoops hired Neal Brown because Brown was familiar with Lexington, and had a lot of success with his quarterback at Texas Tech. When Brown left for Troy, Stoops offered the coordinator job to Gran but couldn't reel him in at the time. Hindsight is 20 20. All of us know Shannon Dawson was a bad hire. But Dawson was recommended to Stoops by his brothers, and it was a mistake that Stoops must recover from now. If you ask me, any college team depending on young quarterbacks must have a dedicated quarterback coach. It doesn't guarantee success, but it is 1 necessary piece. I doubt Stoops will ever go without a quarterback coach again.
i agree. He needed to be somewhere surrounded by enough talent so he could just be a game manager or play down a level or two where his physical talent could just overwhelm aka as in high school. It looks like Pat is holding the ball too low. I feel bad for him. He tried his best.
He's got a lot of talent, but just can't seem to polish his skill or learn the nuance of the position.
Believe what you want. I disagree with almost every sentence of your post except your correct conclusion that Towles needs more work with mechanics. Towles knows it. That's why he hired George Whitfield and Donny Walker. He wasn't getting those finishing touches from Kentucky's coaching staff. After Towles left, Stoops cleaned house on his offensive staff, brought in Gran and Hinshaw. Why? Because Dawson wasn't cutting it with Kentucky's young quarterbacks. You could easily see that in Drew Barker's play last year, as well as Towles. Dawson will look like a genius tonight, but he inherited 1 of the best quarterbacks in the country. Mullens is already a finished product. To your other points, Towles has been unmercifully and unfairly trashed by many Kentucky fans. If you don't know that, you must have been living in Afghanistan. But Towles is the #6 career passer in Kentucky football history despite being gone before his senior season. None of you guys ever seem to understand that little detail.Who you talkin at? Well he is probably making you happy.
They've been hiding his woeful accuracy with misdirection runs because they don't want to be exposed in how bad they're passing offense is so early in the first game of the season they don't want to show GT that they have literally less than zero passing game. Plays like this where he just handed the ball off to a defensive player make me even more glad that BC has to deal with him and his terrible QB'ing. I've never seen a QB hand the ball off to a defensive player like that before especially at the 15 yard line in easy FG range. Just a woefully inaccurate QB who is constantly rattled between the ears. I just really don't understand how he's on a D-1 roster. Even though it's the worst D-1 roster. Still makes no sense the guy couldn't land the bait in the river casting a fishing rod from a fishing boat. He's a turnover king. It was funny how the commentators said 'towles hands it off to the defense' lol. Nothing about him I'll miss.

The coach just said he'd been doing a great job managing the game in first half. Even with 2 TO's. Very low standards at BC I see. Even lower than ours!!! And our fans last season seriously thought he was a capable QB then entire season even when it was beyond obvious that he needed to get benched by game 6 or 7. Everyone here was still defending stoops decision to play him game after game fumble after fumble, INT after INT. missed open WR after missed open WR. I don't see a single positive he brings to the game. Never have. Yet everyone here last season said they saw something. But I feel like the whole fanbase was just blind.
Addazio coached Tim Tebow to a Heisman and national championship. That might have been pretty appealing to Towles.
Then how is he the #6 career passer in Kentucky football history despite not playing at Kentucky as a senior?I wasn't bashing anyone. I have no issue with him, just don't think he is a good QB.
Tebow played in a spread offense at Florida and won the national championship. If you are saying Tebow did not have the right set of skills to be a successful NFL quarterback, that is obviously true. But if you are saying Urban Meyer and his staff didn't do a great job of coaching their offensive players at Florida, that would be a silly thing to say.And......scouts said Tebow had poor form, delivery and not especially well coached for a QB. Now Tebow is playing baseball and trying commentating. Not a great example
