That's easy....everyone's favorite dynasty has to be Joliet Catholic!

It is conferred and it used to be that whoever USA Today deemed as the top team in its ranking was called the "national champion."

Mostly by reporters who never saw the team actually play They rely on newspaper and other media reports.

You sure about that? Hazelwood East was the bad boy that year and ended up 5 in USA Today. We lost to them by six in the opener after a late pick six by Terrell Fletcher - our only loss followed by two state titles.

In 1900, Hickey/Darond et al, we tried to get east Side for game 9 of the season as we could not find anyone in the Midwest to play us that late in the year.

Both Schott and Shannon wanted a home game and both claimed our respective busses could not make it up the hill. Probably better that way.

Public school dynasties are very impressive to me. Catholic schools get to pick their groceries so to speak...

For example... it fascinates me that Glenbard West in the early 2000's were not good, finishing 34-51 in 9 years under Karpowicz. Ending with a 1-8 season in 2006-2007.... Since then Hetlet has taken over and made the team one of the states premier programs. Fascinating to me.

Or the sustained talent for East Side, Maine South, etc etc

The 25 year run WWS had from 1988-2011 would be hard for any program to match.

11 title game appearances with 7 titles
14 appearances in the semi-finals
17 appearances in the quarterfinals

Also from 1990-1998 they played in 6 title game (4-2 record) which was nearly unheard of when there were only 6 classes.

But on the other side of the coin, whats happened? Wheaton has done a reverse glenbard west? GBW vs WWS used to be THE week 1 game of the year.

This was a freak team for years. Dergo, Danly, Dace Richardson, Moeki... and those are just the big names, Antos brothers were all americans at north central. On and On you go. Sorry, third reply on the same post but my roommate my frosh year of college was a WWS guy. I got to know that school well. They were great!

WWS was forced to drop the game due to the realignment of the DVC but with them switching to the Dukane I'm pretty sure week 1 of WWS vs GBW will be back in the next couple of years.

As for the program at a WWS I wouldn't be to worried everyone kinda figured this was gonna happen since there has been a talent drop but there is a ton of talent in the pipeline coming up.

Impressive....Ill counter with JCA had a 32 year run from 1975-2007 which included:
16 title game appearances with 13 titles
18 appearances in the semi-finals
22 appearances in the quarterfinals

Also from 1997-2007 they won 6 championships with an overall record in that span of 117-11

As far as public schools, the WWS stat is very impressive. I would guess maybe MS would be able to compare in regards to longevity. As far as Catholic schools MC, PC, Montini and obviously DC have had some remarkable runs as well.

Mt. Carmel has won 12 state championships. Of these, two were at the highest level at that time; nine were one level down; and one was two levels down.

We've lost five state championship games: two at the highest level at that time, and three at one level down.

Prior to the IHSA state tourneys, Mt. Camel won the City Championship nine times. Our first was in 1927.

Taylor Bell crowned our 1950 team as the finest Chicago area high school football team he observed in his very lengthy and respected career.

No program in the state can match our 90-year football history.

Like three posts up, JCA makes a pretty good case.. And Montini only being 50 years old isnt bad either.

The Caravan is the Caravan, not arguing, just saying that their history is on the same level as several others.

I'm not trying to get into an argument with anyone, but no school matches our records. With one exception, our state championships have been won at either the highest or second highest level.

I don't know how many quarter or semi appearances we've had because we don't pay them any special attention. You can rest assured that they are way beyond numerous.

I think a lot of schools are great. No need to get into a pissing contest. Whos the NEXT dynasty? Who's the GBW thats on the rise? Schools with new hire as a head coach? Johnsburg maybe?

I'm not trying to win any contest ... I stated facts along with some interpretation. If others see it differently, fine. Make your case.

Dana Howard was on the 89 team. His brother Jeff was on 85 team
I must say, you are correct (I WAS WRING) about Dana being on the 1989 team - but it was Bryan Cox in the article talking national championships. They did not get one in 1989.

Interesting item about Dana and the Southwest Conference. In 1994, Dana won the Butkus award and in 1996, Belleville East's Matt Russel won it. Not too often guys fro the same conference will that award so close together.

Maine South, Wheaton Warrenville South, Glenbard West, because they coach the kids that live in their district and are always (or were always) a contender. Non boundary schools are just different and I can't really include in this.
