The only dynasty with a national title was ESL in 1985 - I'll go with them.
Mostly by reporters who never saw the team actually play They rely on newspaper and other media reports. It is conferred and it used to be that whoever USA Today deemed as the top team in its ranking was called the "national champion."

You sure about that? Hazelwood East was the bad boy that year and ended up 5 in USA Today. We lost to them by six in the opener after a late pick six by Terrell Fletcher - our only loss followed by two state titles. Also 89 National Champs
In 1900, Hickey/Darond et al, we tried to get east Side for game 9 of the season as we could not find anyone in the Midwest to play us that late in the year. You sure about that? And players who move on to college - i am assuming that goes into the mix.Mostly by reporters who never saw the team actually play They rely on newspaper and other media reports.

That's easy....everyone's favorite dynasty has to be Joliet Catholic!
OPRF has a handful of National ChampionshipsThe only dynasty with a national title was ESL in 1985 - I'll go with them.
The 25 year run WWS had from 1988-2011 would be hard for any program to match.
11 title game appearances with 7 titles
14 appearances in the semi-finals
17 appearances in the quarterfinals
Also from 1990-1998 they played in 6 title game (4-2 record) which was nearly unheard of when there were only 6 classes.
But on the other side of the coin, whats happened? Wheaton has done a reverse glenbard west? GBW vs WWS used to be THE week 1 game of the year.

Cool graphic by Montini Football about their run.
I think the only thing on there thats not true is the "3 Classes" thing. Wheaton South and Providence have won state titles in 3 classes? Yeah?
Dana Howard's 85 team was - Homer's 1989 team was not.
Mt. Carmel has won 12 state championships. Of these, two were at the highest level at that time; nine were one level down; and one was two levels down.
We've lost five state championship games: two at the highest level at that time, and three at one level down.
Prior to the IHSA state tourneys, Mt. Camel won the City Championship nine times. Our first was in 1927.
Taylor Bell crowned our 1950 team as the finest Chicago area high school football team he observed in his very lengthy and respected career.
No program in the state can match our 90-year football history.
Like three posts up, JCA makes a pretty good case.. And Montini only being 50 years old isnt bad either.
The Caravan is the Caravan, not arguing, just saying that their history is on the same level as several others.
I must say, you are correct (I WAS WRING) about Dana being on the 1989 team - but it was Bryan Cox in the article talking national championships. They did not get one in 1989.Dana Howard was on the 89 team. His brother Jeff was on 85 team
Dergo played at WWS too??This was a freak team for years. Dergo, Danly, Dace Richardson, Moeki... and those are just the big names, Antos brothers were all americans at north central. On and On you go. Sorry, third reply on the same post but my roommate my frosh year of college was a WWS guy. I got to know that school well. They were great!
