Whatever Newton’s last manor injury was killed his career. Dude went from MVP level to holding a clipboard in 5-6 years.

He’s only had what, 2 *great* seasons in 10 years. I know his early Panthers teams were hot garbage, but still.

Kind if ****** timing.. but I guess this was around covid and the Vax. I say this often. The best ability is availability.. Cam was a liability at this point.

But I certainly don't think he's washed up. That Pats team, through all their years of winning, was finally starting to become void of talent, particularly on the offensive end. And they had by far the most COVID opts outs last year.. not many QBs were winning their and that includes Brady.. who was wise enough to jump ship. They were a bad team last year, whose only reason they weren't the worst team in the NFL was due to the real GOAT, Bill B.

I don't think he's finished, but I think this season's probably going to be his last hurrah. New England had a lot of problems on offense last year for sure, but their offensive line was great, one of the best units in the entire league. Wherever Newton ends up, he's not going to get anywhere near that same degree of protection, and considering how poorly he performed with elite blockers, then without one he's probably not going to be able to keep his head above water for long regardless of how good his targets and coaches are.

It may be.. because this year is probably lost for him as a starter. And he's going to have to work back into a starter spot. I just think he's one of those guys who was kind of dealt a bad hand with the teams he wound up on.

New England has a great Oline. But idk if it mattered much. No passing targets, poor running back Corp. And then a defense that more or less opted out. Plus, idk how much a great Oline helps a mobile but pass-lacking qb like Cam. I think guys like Cam and Lamar can be effective with mediocre Olines, while guys like Peyton and Brady need more from them. That's not to say Cam didn't get helped from NE's oline.. but would like to see what Cam Newton could have done on a better team.

He was terrible last year. Can't pass and they stack the box on him. Mac Jones is a better fit. Cam is done as a starter.

There is nothing worse for team chemistry than a disgruntled back up qb. Still, they better hope Jones is the guy.

Yeah thats what's kind of crazy to me. They could have kept Cam as the starter until Mac was ready. If Mac Jones isn't the guy, (or isn't yet to be THE guy), then the Pats just punted this season. I think Cam would have faired much better in year 2, with a bunch of new weapons and returning defense to help. Plus the ultimate trump card: Bill Belichik. He knows how to squeeze the most out of his players.

But didn't Bill and McDaniels have to plan around Cam's style of play? This seems to suggest they will throw more.

Yeah I imagine with Mac Jones, that Bill will go back to a similar style to his days with Brady. Mac Jones IS their future, not Cam. But still, risky move for this season I'd you ask me. And organization dysfunction, along with not winning, can ruin QBs. Throw Mac Jones into the fire too early and it can be career altering.

Source: Jets fan that's seen a dozen QBs be ruined.
