Paul was pretty bad at different points earlier this year. He is playing at such a different level now it's incredible. I am loving what I'm seeing out of him.
AGreed.. the difference to me is that he is going up strong in the paint whereas in early season he'd fear getting blocked and would throw up junk early without even jumping. His junk shots were NEAR the cylinder... would roll around and off... he might never have corrected this if that junk rolled in more than not.

Now he does all that Kevin McHale stuff.. which is maddening to a defense.. and he goes up strong in traffic so if he does get blocked he might also get fouled.

WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.

Forgive the “compare any two whites guys” comparison but Paul hopefully gets that killer offensive instinct that Ron Hodgeson never seemed to embrace. I used to scream at the TV begging him to be more aggressive on O. Paul WAS the same way.

Agreed he’s maturing right in front of our eyes hopefully for good now. This can be his team the rest of the way.

Just remember for every high (Purdue and MSU) there's an equally debilitating low (Minnesota and Northwestern).

Does Pike test the waters at letting Geo run the floor again this season?

Will be very interesting to see what happens the rest of the way

Still think he does in which Geo runs the floor and than gives the ball up to Paul so he can handle the ball from there. Paul’s strength is NOT dribbling it up court unlike Geo.
I’m fine with that, I just don’t want to see Geo running the offense again.

Let him play off ball as a threat to catch and shoot in rhythm.

Um, no. Actually, when Paul is getting a blow or picks up a couple of fouls, Geo can play point. There are no waters to test. The team is obviously better when Paul runs the show.

Absolutely agree with you, I’m just concerned Pike won’t be able to resist letting Geo run the show again at some point.

Totally agree. Paul right now is what we got from Jacob young. Geo and Ron are great but need a third leader and scorer to help them get open shots and play their game. Paul is now that guy. And he needs to be consistently

while young absolutely dominated some games on offense I don’t think he CONTROLLED a game the way Paul has the last two games.

Correct. I’m a huge JY guy but his strength was transition and creating chaos. Generally it was a plus for RU and JY because of his speed.

Paul is controlling the pace of the game - something I posted about a week or two again.

He is forcing the defense to move on the offensive end and opening up the game for those around him.

even sanders - who undoubtedly dominated countless times on offense for us never controlled the game like this. Not saying better or worse - just different

Paul is now legitimately earning the double teams he has probably been begging for from defenses for years. If you double, he'll find your man... if you don't, he'll get to the tin. Loving how he's been more aggressive - was hoping for this version of Paul over the summer.

Really hope this boosts his confidence and he keeps it up going forward.

Well, if he does, I'll join the "fire Pike" morons, lol. Geo's a big boy; he can handle it. And if Pike does, he'll probably have a good reason for it. I've been all in on Coach Pike from the get-go.

Someone is going to stop PM at some point, and Pike’s answer will likely be Geo controlling the game again.

If Geo does so-so, it’ll be interesting to see if Pike sticks with Geo or goes back to PM the following game.

The next couple of weeks will tell the story.

I always enjoy your posts on this board. But weren't you down on Paul ?

Yes because he didn't attach or look to score....if he is passive and doesn't score, he cannot be as effective as a passer....and he needs to generate offense to offset his defense.

RU needs double figure scoring from Mulcahy to help out. He has pushed his PPG from 6.7PPG to 8.4PPG on the season, just in the last 2 games.....that's an enormous jump in production.

If you pencil in 10 to 11 PPG for Mulcahy, that means he's aggressive and looking to score....then you add in the Cliff production going up, because Paul is attacking and now you have 2 extra scorers to support RHJ and Baker.....that would be 4 players in double figure potential and changes how we play.

And if Mulcahy and others continue to find Reiber, left alone and uncovered at the 3 point line.....

great point about how an aggressive paul also adds cliff as a scorer (and dean)!!

we have a season of evidence to support your point - no one other than “aggressive Paul” (not geo or timid paul) gets cliff opportunities like “aggressive paul”

this team MUST run through Paul moving forward!!!

A lot of guys played really well. Don't know it we could play a better all-around 40 minutes. (If that one kid wasn't, what was it, 6/7 from three, we'd have beaten by thirty.) BUT Paul was the star of the game.

Totally agree. Another game to watch for years to come. Just want our veterans leaving next year to finish the year strong.

If Pike moves PM off the point put Geo there again he's knowingly doing so at the detriment of the team for one player to hopefully shine.

Ironically the team itself is in far better positions when Paul is the 1. That's what PM was in HS and why he's recruited. It's sort of shocking he hasn't been in this role the whole time.
