Greatest invention since spandex
it would be interesting to see what it's like.

my first thought was that it would seem weird to watch a game on tv without announcers since that's you're so used to, but it might be kind of cool to just mute the announcers and crank the crowd noise up. particularly if you have surround sound.

I'm good with eliminating TV announcers altogether in favor of the stadium announcers. They give you all the info you need and very little else.

Maybe they can have a special sound enhancement marketed specifically to Gamecock fans that broadcasts soothing and calming sounds like a babbling brook or a rain forest while the game is going on. Serenity now . . .

Brilliant! Maybe throw in some positive affirmations here and there..."everything's going to be ok"..."there's more to life than Gamecock football"..."remember, it's just a game"

The ability to control the audio for the announcers and the crowd separately. Can mute the announcers entirely and have just crowd noise, which can be turned up/down on its own.

Awesome. I had thought of starting a thread on this earlier this year. ESPN has that one announcer, I think its fowler, who starts yelling a lot. I've been very meh on that, seemed to just be getting excited.

But I think Fox wanted to try and compete. I watched Indiana vs Penn State. It was an exciting game, but that announcer felt like he had to scream louder at each subsequent play. It went into the ridiculous range, imo.

Go watch the YouTube highlights of the game if you care enough.

Either way, my hope was that this didn't become a trend. And this option could ensure that it doesnt.

Some network tried broadcasting without announcers in the very late 70's or early 80's. Everybody i knew hated it.

Yeah, that was also NBC. Apparently, the mics they had did a very poor job of picking up the crowd noise and stadium announcers. That was in the 70s, though. Microphones have come a long way since then.

Microphones have been pretty good for a while. Maybe there were issues in the control room.

Just reading the Wiki page on it. Maybe there's a YouTube video of the game somewhere. On Wiki, though, it sounds like it was just poorly executed.

In theory, if you can replicate the game environment with crowd noise and stadium announcers from home, that would be pretty cool. In practice, people may just be conditioned to having commentators for televised games and anything otherwise will feel weird.

At least it will be optional. You can keep the commentator audio or not.

Wonder if the can develop a tech where you can tune out the play by play and keep the color man on radio broadcasts.Sorry Todd.

I agree with the "conditioned" aspect, as that seems the real reason.

This would be ideal for watching NASCAR and any game called by Beth Mowins.

You're probably thinking of Joe Tessitore.
