Just wondering in this cold winter if anyone likes their pellet stove and do they keep your house warm.

How much are pellets per ton? Anyone own a corn stove?

Wood burning fireplace insert here (2 of them)

My wife’s uncle was just talking about his pellet stove today. He loves it. He said it was a $5,000 stove but a bag of wood pellets is $2 a bag. He said he orders them by the pallet.

I still prefer burning wood.

As a kid, one of our homes had a corn stove in the basement. It was horrible. You could never get it to properly burn and draw. As a result, it smelled like burnt popcorn.

We love our inserts.

Friend of mine sold his a few years ago, didn't like it. I'm sure they've been improved though. I have electric and propane backup, the propane keeps me so warm and cozy though, I keep the electric turned down and use propane. Couldn't go wrong with gas, and no ashes to take out.

Not sure about pellet stove. I have wood stove with catalytic combustion that basically burns the smoke as well. Keeps house super warm. Cut my own wood off my property so nothing like free heat!

What kind? Is it similar to a DIY rocket stove?

We do the same here. Have a Vermont Castings Encore with the catalytic combuster and about 55 acres of woods. Love it.

Parents have a pellet stove...thing roasts. Much easier to maintain than wood too. You just have to empty the thing out every so often.
