One thing I have been noticing of late is fewer penalties, especially silly motion or procedure penalties... If my math is correct we had 49 penalties in the first five games and only 29 in the last five games... That's major improvement in an area that was atrocious to start the year. Looks like they are playing more disciplined...

Glad you brought it up, surprised the group that hammered it for weeks haven't said a word.

Glad you brought this up. We have certainly seen improvement in this area.

Yep.

I may be wrong but I don`t remember a second half flag against us.

You're right.

Bump...

I'm a little surprised as well, as we were told by some that it would always be this way since it was always that way at OSU.

We're up 110th in the nation, that is an improvement from 127th. Still not as good as we've been in the last few years and right on par with where Oregon State has finished.

Not sure it is time to bring out the mission accomplished banner, but it is going the right direction.

Who said mission accomplished? I was merely pointing out the dramatic reduction in penalties from the first five games to the last five games. That is pretty telling to me. I guess we differ on that one.

I guess I don't see where we differ. We both see it as going in the right direction. No? It will take a few years to see if it has actually improved or if we will see the same cycle early in the season or not.

True... I think the biggest sign for me is on offense in the past we seemed to have 3-5 procedure penalties every single game. Maybe that's a high estimate on my part, but it was definitely an every game experience where someone would false start... It has been nice to see our linemen not jumping until the ball is snapped. I am hoping this discipline continues.

Likewise, it has been drive killers. Not only this year, it has driven me nuts for several years. I hope they keep that up.

Going by NU's recent clip of 5.8 penalties per game over the last 5 games, that would put them at 52nd nationally. That means that as of right now they aren't turning in 110th place penalty performance, their overall stats are just suffering from the woebegotten start they had in that department. A 70 some place jump in performance is definitely something to be impressed by, IMO!
