I'm setting this up early Friday afternoon, so that everyone has the information.

Please use the thread for all pre-match, in-match, and post-match discussion for the PSU - Nebraska dual.

When:
Jan. 17, 9:00 pm EST

Where:
Devaney Sports Center, Lincoln NE

TV:
BTN

Video Streaming:
Those that are subscribers of the BTN can stream the video via the Fox Sports App

Audio Streaming:
The radio PBP, with Jeff Byers at the mic, will be streamed for free. The pre-match portion of the broadcast will begin at 8:40 pm EST, with the actual dual taking place at 8:00 pm EST. GoPSUsports.com changed their web site, and I've yet to figure out how to get the URLs in advance for the audio stream.Go to:

Lion Vision

gopsusports.com

Once there, click on the button to the left of Wrestling: Nebraska

PBP:
I should be good for PBP. My only caution is that I'm reffing a tournament Saturday morning, at 8 am, so I may not be able to stick around for the post-match interviews, stats, etc. I hope @GregPickel will also be adding coverage. And I always encourage others to participate in the coverage.

Looks like a big match - on the road. Will be watching on BTN.

We are overdue to be challenged, especially after so many blow outs. Amazing how coach keeps turning out National Championship teams. What a remarkable guy!
We are fortunate to have him - and to keep him here!

Go Lions.

You still have time before tonight’s start. I just took about an hour listening to Jeff Byers best calls pinned above.
That’ll get your blood pumping!
I have to meet him at Ohowihate in a few weeks.

So far iowa continues its fine tradition of stall by moving forward. So boring.
watched the movie unstoppable and is brands really that big of an ***? Oh wait.
Man they are so… inactive. It’s like watching Greco Roman wrestling…. So slow… one shot per match. .

...speaking of Brands… Sold out @ Carver Hawkeye. Nice job. Tim Johnson says ‘Crookham is out for the year’. Illinois, last win vs Iowa was 2005. Brands’ brothers no longer clothes-shopping @ KMart; Dick’s Clearance racks, a minor upgrade. Iowa is old school; don’t get better, just win. Now. Which is 95% of all coaches' strategy. IMAR on Illinois' staff must go 215..? @ 149lb., Kyle Parco’s got Nothing for SVN. Iowa doing what they need to do, win the close ones. After five bouts it’s Iowa 13, Ill 3. Iowa just wants it more. Good for them. Brands gives half time interview and the mic is dead... We won’t miss much. Likely said, we just gotta get better, blah, blah

This should be a wild match and Nebby will be ready. Their fans are passionate and their coach is always yelling about something. He has to be a great coach, but man is he weird. Pinto and Allred not in the top 10.......not buying it. They can beat just about anyone. They are both down a weight, right?

Caliendo with the Tech Fall, Tim Johnson with the heart flutters. Iowa leads 18-3 after six. Iowa making it look easy against the #10 team in the country. Illinois not showing any grit. I thought Ed Ruth was on staff here last year… Not on the coaching roster now.

hate to say it, but watching the Iowa vs Illinois meet, glad I didn’t invite any friends to watch alongside. This style of wrestling is no way to attract new fans. After seven it’s now Iowa 21 - Ill 3.

1st period TD by Arnold over Ruth. IMAR’s face shows ‘what’s going into my super-sized hoagie after the meet..?’ Some good exchanges but Arnold does just enough to win, Iowa up 24 - 3 after 184.

Illinois wrestling with no confidence. Braunagel down 4-1 into third period vs Buchanan. This has been a boring meet, little to be excited about. A lot of ranked wrestlers, but little urgency by either team. TD by Buchanan with 6 seconds left to Braunagel’s back and wins 13-2.

Tom, a quick briefer on how/ who decides which weight they being with..?

- immediately after weigh ins, coaches can mutually agree to determine the starting weight class. PSU always opts for 125, so if a PSU doesn't start at 125, it's because the opposing coach wouldn't agree to start at 125.
- if they can't agree on a weight to start, then they flip a coin
- the coach that wins the toss has the choice to either select the starting weight class or the odd/even matches (odd/even references which team has choice in the 2nd period; 5 weight classes are odd and 5 are even, so if it's even, and the match being wrestled is 174, then the team that has even, their wrestlers gets to select top, bottom, neutral or defer at the start of the 2nd period)
- whichever selection is made by the coach that wins the toss, then the other coach gets to select the remaining option. So if PSU wins the toss, and picks 174, then the other coach gets to select odd/even

Byers just said Nebraska wanted to draw and PSU selected 174.

Glad I just had one beer prior to the meet; I’d have never been able to follow the results since we’re starting @ 174. I like routine (start @ 125…). Byers on the Lion vision, BTN coming soon.

174: #2 Levi Haines vs. #15 Lenny Pinto (LP)

Per 1
LP working undercooks, and likes to shoot legs off of them. Haines gets a head inside single, they scramble, LP with a lock through the crotch, probably will be a stalemate, and there it is with 1:53 left. LP shoots a single, but Haines throws him by on a counter and gets the TD, 3-0. He's quickly working a bar. He gives that up but maintains control. Then he gets the bar again. RT goes over 1 min. LP is flattened. End. RT @ 1:18 for Haines

Per 2
Haines takes bottom. He's up, and out in 6 sec, 4-0. LP shoots, Haines sprawls, nothing. 1 min left. LP sloppy shot, nothing. Haines in on a single, they scramble, this seems headed to a stalemate, but Haines awarded a TD but then waved off, and the buzzer sounds. RT @ 1:14 for Haines

Per 3
LP takes bottom. He's quickly flattened. Then he starts working up a bit, but not much. Stalemate with 1:23 left. LP tries a roll, but Haines stays with him. Then he hits another roll and gets an reversal, 4-2. Haines quickly out, 5-2. Under 1 min left. RT is locked for Haines. LP sort of shoots, nothing. He shoots again and gets in on a leg, they scramble, Haines in better shape and gets a TD with 11 sec left, 8-2. End. With RT, it's a 9-2 DEC for Haines

3-0, PSU
