149: #2 Shayne Van Ness vs. #4 Ridge Lovett (RL)

This could be fun

Per 1
Van Ness near y with a TD but RL rolls and gets away. 1 min left. Van Ness nearly with an ankle pick and then RL nearly with a counter, nothing for either. End

Per 2
SVN takes bottom. RL throws in a boot, and SVN to his feet, though he's returned. SVN grabs a foot, what a crazy position and SVN gets the reversal, 2-0. RL is up and out, 2-1. Not much action. End. RT @ 0:34 for RL

Per 3.
crap. computer locked. RL got an esc and quickly shot and got a TD, 2-5. SVN grabs an ankle, but RL is getting swipes, and the ref awards 4 NF, 2-9. Stall call on RL for holding on to the leg, with 0:22 left. SVN up and returned. RL throws in a boot, and that should be it. RT is locked for RL. End. With 1:39 in RT, it's a 2-10 MAJ for Ridge Lovett

not making excuses for anybody but Nebraska brought their A game (thus far). This has been a fun meet to watch, our coaches have shown they know what they’re doingin regards to training and peaking at the right time. The guys who’ve lost have some film to watch and lessons to learn. Good efforts all around! Not discouraged at all.

157: #3 Tyler Kasak vs. #5 Antrell Taylor (AT)

Per 1
Kasak with a throw-by, nothing, then AT tries a double, nothing. Kasak in on a double, but they are on the edge, and OOB with 2:14 left. AT gets a single, Kaska counters and gets the TD with a double and an inside trip and is getting swipes. Ref is holding 4 and Kasak trying to get the pin, but AT to his stomach, so it's 7-0. They are on the edge, and OOB with 0:37 sec left. AT tries to work up, and then to his feet, and he's out, 7-1. OOB with 0:18 left. End. RT @ 1:02 for Kasak

Per 2
Kasak takes bottom. He's up and out in 7 sec, 8-1. OOB with 1:21 left. AT sort of shoots, and Kasak tries a counter, nothing. They are on the edge, and OOB with 0:34 left. Stoppage as Kasak gets poked in the eye. End. RT @ 0:55 for Kasak

Per 3
AT takes bottom. AT works up, is lifted, and returned as they go OOB with 1:47 left. RT is over 1 min for Kasak. AT works up, lifted and returned, AT tries a roll and then a switch but Kasak is smart with his D and retains control. AT is nearly flattened. Stalemate with 0:59 left. RT @ 1:56 for Kasak. AT works up, and he's out 8-2. RT is locked for Kaska. AT shoots, blocked, and they are OOB with 0:36 left. Stall call on Kasak (I guess they thought he backed off). AT shoots, and they go OOB and another stall call on Kasak so it's a point, 8-3. End. With :01 in RT it's a 9-3 DEC

Their team and crowd were both jacked up jonesing for an upset which I assume is how it usually is when Penn State goes on the road. Winning 8 out of 10 matches is a good effort. Winning all 10 in a laugher doesn't give a good indication of where the team is.

Next Saturday at Rutgers will be another team and crowd looking to prove something.

Davis lost to a 7 point move and I feel like he panicked. Seemed like he could get back into it with steady neutral offense. SVN had a rough one and should learn some. Can't get stuck under Lovett. Related: I absolutely hate leg riders.
Agree, more concerned with SVN that Davis. Still confident they can both all american

Final match

165: #1 Mitchell Mesenbrink vs. #7 Bubba Wilson (BW)

Per 1
Mesenbrink with a single right off the whistle, BW with a whizzer, Mesenbrink pulling the leg in, loses it on the edge, nothing. Mesenbrink in on a head inside single, BW sprawls, stalemate with 1:52 left. Stall warning on BW as Mesenbrink shoots (nothing). Mesenbrink with another head inside single, BW does a split, Mesenbrink shelfs the leg, and gets the TD, 3-0. After a bit, BW is flattened. BW sits out, nothing. BW to his feet, is returned, and flattened. BW tries to hit a roll but Mesenbrink stops it. Mesenbrink working a bar, but the buzzer sounds. RT @ 1:08 for Mesenbrink

Per 2
Mesenbrink takes bottom. he works up, and is cut, 4-0. Mesenbrink with a quick TD, 7-0. He gets 1 swipe, but nothing more. Illegal hold against Mesenbrink so a stoppage with 1:05, makes it 7-1. Mesenbrink elects to start on his feet, so it's 7-2. Mesenbrink is shooting, but BW sprawls, nothing. They are on the edge, and OOB with 31 sec, but a stall call on BW (he backed out), so it's 8-2. Mesenbrink with a head outside single and drives in to get the TD, 11--2. He turns him and gets 3 swipes before the buzzer sounds, 14-2. End. RT @ 1:53 for Mesenbrink

Per 3
BW takes bottom. Mesenbrink elects to start neutral so it's 14-3. Mesenbrink with a quick TD (a double), 17-3. He's workin a bar and gets swipes. It's 3 NF and then BW to his stomach, so it's a 20-3 TF @ 5:39.

Love a rematch here. I think ridge is a one trick pony. He has no offense like beau. Shane will adjust.

I am worn out by that PBP. A lot of moves to keep up with.

The clock was handled correctly in the Bartlett - Brock Hardy match, IMHO. Initially, the ref was counting Hardy for locking on the leg, and had not yet awarded the reversal, so it was correct for the RT clock to run in Hardy's favor. Once the reversal was awarded, it went in the opposite direction.

Great match by Lighting Luke.

Davis got unlucky in his match. He looked to be in good shape to get a TD after a scramble, and ended up being down 7-0. He battled back, but was trailing by 4 points, so went for a throw, and it didn't work. No biggie.

Shayne Van Ness and Ridge Lovett was an excellent match. Two really good wrestlers. SVN got a little sloppy thinking he was giving up an escape, but Lovett turned immediately and shot, and caught SVN.

Lots of good from tonight's dual, and also some things to work on for the team.

I'm calling it a night for me, as I have to get up at the crack of dawn, and will be working a tournament starting at 8 am.

After watching PSU tonight after Iowa, it should be an interesting dual. First dual was in slow motion compared to the second one. Nebraska wrestled.

Maybe 3 Iowa wins? 133, 149, 157.

Not his best tactical match. Not a real good loss.
He wins with basics there. Not sure why he tries to go big. Always seems to get caught with the rolls. Why he tried to throw him instead of just shooting for the legs is a learning moment that Cael I’m sure will go over with him.

Beau wearing two different shoes……..not sure I ever noted that. Like the evil BB look.

Sorry, I know the cheer, but to these old ears, it sounded like bring out you dead…….I couldn’t stop laughing.

He sure is fun to watch, regardless of the quality of the opponent. Remember Nationals?
He may not be our best wrestler, but he's worth the price of admission.

A good problem to have, but what does PSU do at 197 the next 3 years? Is either Mirasola or Barr going down to 184? Or is it more likely that one is transferring out? At the lower, more closely bunched weights, it might be easier to see some movement up or down. At 197 that seems less likely occur.
