This was the 1947 season opener for PSU. Assuming PSU was the home team, wearing white was unusual. Maybe an early white out vibe?!

PSU went 9-0-1 in '47, finished the regular season at 9-0 and #4, iirc, then tied #3 SMU and Kyle Rote in the Cotton Bowl, 13-13. We missed an extra point. That was the famous Wally Triplett "We are Penn State" game.

PSU's rushing defense was the best in the country that season, allowing (I think) a single-digit rushing yards per game average, or some obscenely low average, shutting out more than half of their opponents, and allowing more than 7 points just twice. We finished #3 in the country. Steve Suhey was one of the other stars on that team.

Great find. Thanks.

Back in the day, home whites were more common.
The old tale that I was told was because the home team could wash their uniforms and get the stains out before they set in. The road team would have to wait to wash the uniforms when they got home and the stains would be harder to get out. The dark uniforms didn't show the stains as much.
🤷‍♂️
