Needs to hold on to lead and beat Minny. That and a Maryland win over Nebraska gets us the 10 seed, with a day one bye and another match up with Indiana. But....in a strange way, would it be better to get the 11 seed so that we get another good chance at a win (against Rutgers)?

You don't want NU to get a bye. They need 2 wins in order to make the NIT. Now you have to be at Indy then Maryland just to get the wins needed to have enough.

Now we need NEB to beat Maryland which is not likely...in order for NU to drop to #11. We really needed that win yesterday.

While I understand the counter-argument, I'd say no. I'd rather play Rutgers, then OSU and potentially MSU after that than Indiana followed by Maryland.

Oh my god we are not making the NIT. We are 15-16 with RPI 110. Stop.

I agree. Being 17-17 isnt going to do it, assuming we wi our next two. For us to have a chance, we have to win 3 more, not two. Although it is possible if we beat indy and maryland and play a good tough game in the semis that we go to nit.

The hole was dug too deep with the Central Michigan loss and not being able to convert any of those close games during the losing streak. We're playing right now for pride, development and publicity. Also, in the case of Crean, schadenfreude. Bring on Indiana!!

Ah JCat, see you edited out the snarly remark aimed at Collins. Good move and also glad that you truly believe that the accolades towards Chris are appropriate.

I was rooting for PSU, and I'll be rooting for Maryland tonight. Playing Indiana on Thursday is a way better bet then playing OSU or MSU on Thursday. And that's assuming we can beat Rutgers or PSU on Wednesday, not a sure thing. We've already beaten Indiana once and we have a clear match-up advantage inside. Maybe we shoot the lights out and shock OSU or MSU, but Collins is a better coach than Crean and I don't think he's yet in the class of Izzo or Matta. Anyway, our best shot to get to Friday is one game against Indiana.

Also playing on the first day always makes me feel like the dregs of the conference. It would be nice for once not to feel that way.

No way the 'Cats are going to the NIT now

"You don't want NU to get a bye. They need 2 wins in order to make the NIT."

It's true that a bye would hurt NU's NIT hopes, however, Saturday's loss already ended the slim chance for a bid. The 'Cats had to knock off the Hawkeyes as well as (likely) take three in the BIG tourney to have a decent shot. NU's RPI is far too weak and do not possess nearly enough quality wins (1) to offset it, even if the NIT bubble were to be extremely soft.

Check out the NIT threads. The idea that this team could get in at .500 (or a game over) just isn't true. The CBI is the only opportunity for postseason play now. We'll see if Phillips bites.

No one will be playing in the Big Ten Tourney with more on the line than the Wildcats.

Why not just win the blooming thing, with Jershon having a few days to keep on healing and then being Player of the Game (times 4).

Wish you well against IU. Do the same things you did the first time....and you know the crowd will be cheering for you. Even the IU crowd because they want a new coach. Congrats on a decent year.

Oh, I love Collins with very few exceptions. I realized people wouldn't get that I was making fun of writers on Twitter, not the coach.
