You can expect Riley to get extended at the end of the year also. Not sure why anyone would get upset...unless you are a big dollar booster and you are not sold on Eichorst.

This is just how it works. Could be worse...Notre Dame extended Charlie Cheeseburger to a 10 year extension way back when....this is finally the last year of the buyout...

I hope they give him a hefty raise and make it a 10 year contract to boot. Eichorst deserves every penny and year for ridding us of Bo.

I feel the same way about this extension as I did the Callahan and Pelini extensions. Not sure what the rush is and have they done enough to be in demand elsewhere, and are we better or worse off with or without him? IDK any of the answers, I just wonder why the rush? He has 2 years left, let's sit back and let thing play out for MR and SE. Seems to me their futures should be directly related. Maybe I'm just old fashioned like that.

As retarded as this may seem to the average person, contract extensions are 'standard fare' in this business. It really shouldn't rise to the level of some sort of click bait/headline.
There is no reason to extend Eichorst. The biggest reason is no one else wants him, and plus he is over paid already. No one is ever going to be dumb enough to take him off or hands at what he is making now.

You obviously have no clue how these positions work. This is status quo, and it is an attempt to sell newspapers because of the current landscape.

One more thought....NU's AD first priority should be to field a winning football team (IMO anyway, YMMV). As of right now this very second, SE hasn't done that and I have never heard a football recruit declare or decommit from any University using the AD's contract as a reason. 12 months(ish) seems like a small price to wait and SE ain't going anywhere and we've already made him a pretty wealthy man. Again, what's the rush? I wouldn't care if T.Boone Pick was a booster of ours, but since he isn't and unless Mr. Buffett decides to donate a crapton of cash to our athletic department this just looks to me like it has potential negative financial implications written all over it.

Having said all that, until we get back to being a winning program I guess I don't really give a crap who our AD is. Doesn't make an ounce of difference in my life. So if the University wants to push all their chips into the middle of the table holding two pair, go ahead, but it's a weak hand IMO.

Extending Shawn is a VERY BAD MOVE!!!!!!!!! He has proven he is not capable of making AD Decisions. He should be FIRED TODAY, not extended. Get rid of this cancer Perlman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Retire both of these losers!!!!

"Daub said perception of overwhelming oversight from the Regents could result in a “chilling effect” when it came to hiring future coaches and athletic directors."

So that does that mean we won't see anymore "I had lunch with a guy who had drinks with a Regent and they are going to fire everyone after the Iowa game" conspiracies?

Or the assinine "money talks, nothing else matters" comments?

"Internet message boards and sports call-in shows have been filled with angry fans calling for heads to roll, from the chancellor’s office on down."

At least they made the paper. Nice consolation prize.

I think you missed this part...

“I’m not elected to coach football or hire and fire coaches and A.D.s,” said Schroeder, referring to consternation surrounding Eichorst’s performance. If the Board of Regents were to appear overly concerned with matters traditionally reserved for campus chancellors, Schroeder said, requests to regents would be “never-ending.”

This is nowhere near as categorically asinine as extending Doc Sadler, giving him a raise, and canning him the very next year.

Doc went 19-13 in 2010-2011 and appeared to be going in the right direction. At that point, he had a .556 winning % at Nebraska which isn't all bad considering NU's history in that sport. The next year was disastrous which resulted in his termination.

A more appropriate comparison would be extending Pederson for 5 YEARS in 2007 without mitigation in the contract and then firing him the following year. That was asinine.

The year before that he went 15-18(2-14)....are you seriously trying to justify Tom Osborne INCREASING a coachces buyout the year before he fired the guy? RollingLaugh

He litereally had zero reason to INCREASE Sadler's buyout. It was a very stupid move...but hey, he's Tom Osborne.

Boom. Great coach, terrible administrator. Eichorst has given the programs so much more to work with. Not that Blo would be adult enough to work with it.

I don't understand your comment. Should perlmans comments have gone unprinted, unreported? Are you serious?

Horrible timing.
Understatement. Let's recap: the Athletic Director (who had a policy of never talking about a coach in season) has commented twice so far in season, the Chancellor is publicly backing him, quotes from the Board of Regents, and a former NU volleyball coach has offered his opinion.

One could read that and think that is great the new coach is getting all of this public support. On the other hand, I don't think this could have played out any worse for the administration. They are leaving no stone unturned to salvage some level of credibility.

You just don't extend the contract of your AD right after the worst loss in 60+ years. You just don't. It's called tact.

I believe Eichorst commented in Sept 2013 when "the tape" was released. The next time I recall was 11/30/2013 when he released the following:

http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=209326983

My definition of in season is commenting specifically about supporting the applicable coach for his/her job security.

Correct, he commented twice in season, 2013.

Good luck with that, an AD isn't going to comment after every loss and that's what some in this fan base want.
