He hasn't been accused by any authorative body like the NCAA and was cleared twice of all wrongdoing by the judge, jury and executioner as the NCAA hates Coach Cal so if there was smoke they would have burned him at the stake.
Now he has been accused of wrongdoing by media, rival fans, etc, but I'm not sure that is relevant. And you just quoted an outkickthecoverage article, which is a site run by a notorious UK basketball hater.
As I said in a onother thread, Cals issues were far more than those two incidences. His player discipline was really bad. He had players in trouble for hookers, drugs, inciting riots in night clubs, constant curfew issues, fights, and a scandal with a player accused of rape and other incidences. This is a basketball team, not a football team. On top of that he ignored the NCAA letter of inquiry, had two seasons stripped and two final fours stripped. As someone from the area I know and was very close to people in that situation. The Memphis media was in full mop up duty nearly year round.
I'm a huge cal advocate because I think it shows how men can redeem their name and image. UK has made it possible for Him to do those things. Cal isn't half as bad as rivals make him out to be, including UK fans who butchered him daily.
My problem is the hypocrisy. If you take that paragraph above and apply it to a football coach, there's no way some of these Petrino (or any coach with baggage) bashers can justify the position.
I wouldn't even talk about it if the moral brigade would end this stupid Indiana basketball moral nonsense like we're just too high and mighty to take a risk. It's bs. You love cal, I love cal, we both or probably agree his rep is unwarranted at this point, but it was a risk to take him. I'm sorry. It's the truth. And that's why Mitch and the bell witch were digging for weeks trying to clear him to coach. Because there were flags.
Does Petrino have more baggage? Yes. Is he capable of a turn around in the rep department? I don't know. But UK football doesn't have an image to protect. We can afford the gamble, and in basketball the gamble (albeit smaller) not only worked out, it worked out better than planned.
Again I'm not bashing Cal at all. It's just that most of us that support him stop the baggage at a few stripped seasons and it's not just the agent incident with camby or the Rose incident that flagged him, and most fans don't know this.
