Barnhart and the freaking basketball fans are complete! Only his 3rd year at Uof L . His 3rd years at Ark. He had the Razorbacks ranked # 5 in the country @ 11-2 record ! Nah , Barnhart we don't need to hire a top ten coach .

Let it go. UK made their decision and at the end of the year, they likely will have to make another decision. Hopefully it's better this time.

Arkansas / Petrino was SO close to playing for a national title the year Bama and LSU were in the national champ. game. Had Arkansas managed to win their final SEC regular season game in Baton Rouge, Ark, Bama, and LSU would have finished with 7-1 records and it would have been Arkansas in the SEC championship game vs. Georgia instead of Bama. Almost certainly Arkansas would have beaten UGA and probably the title game would have been Ark-bama.

There's not a BCS school in the country that would give that filthy, maggot Petrino air if they had him in a jug. No one wants anything to do with this P.O.S. ......except the slime master himself. That being "HOGJAWS" Tom Jurich
This is the point that some seem to miss or are just willing to overlook. The big picture of UL athletics isn't all that pretty(a bit like a cheap hooker)There is only so much lipstick to go around.

I don't think anyone doubted he can coach. UK just didn't want the baggage.

I think this is correct primarily because of Calapari already being at UK. UK would have been the national focal point for "accused" coaches had both been in the stable and Barnhart didn't want that reputation and/or distraction.

Isnt there some stat that he hasn't beaten a ranked team in his 2nd go around with UL yet? ND dropped out the top 25 a week before their win there..

Petrino needs a win over CLEM, FSU or HOUSTON

Totally had nothing to do with it. Cal is a separate issue because every one knows the allegations against Cal were garbage. Cal has been a stellar representative of the university. Not a single distraction or embarrassing situation since he's been here. His players have represented the school better than at any point in my life time. Cal has been very active in the community and with charity works. In short he's everything Petrino isn't. If anyone thought that Petrino would have represented our school the way Cal did Mitch would have over looked his past. Nobody in their right mind believed Petrino would do that. And so far he hasn't at UL. He recruits off the police blotter. He pulls scholarships from good kids on signing day. He acts like a total douche every chance he gets. Petrino is a disgrace. The difference is UL doesn't care about that and UK does. I wouldn't want Calipari here either if he did the things Petrino does. The point is Cal doesn't.

LOL - what a silly post.

That national focal point for accused coaches is really hammering UL aren't they?? :flush:

Petrino has always turned programs around fast. He is a brilliant football mind, and I'll give him that. Baggage? Lots. I remember when fans were either pining for him, or didn't want a thing to do with him.

I had no doubt that he would turn UL around quickly, and they do look very good. For me personally, I would have hired him with some very strict contract clauses. He liked to jump ship a lot, and Jurich, iirc, put quite the buyout clause on him to prevent that. I think he was just itching to get back to coaching and put his personal life on the backburner and do what he does best...coaching. But it didn't work out that way, and I'm fine with that. Regardless of your feelings about Stoops, he has helped put Commonwealth, and our facilities back on the map to help give us a recruiting edge. That much has worked, but now its time for him to put up or shut up on his end of the bargain. I'll judge at the end of the season, but IMO it has always been about Barnhart. He had a gun to his head when hiring Cal, and that worked out nicely for us.

The only thing Barnhart does well is raise money and get projects completed. He is one of the best when it comes to that. I don't think the man has any idea what he is doing from a hiring perspective. The college athletic landscape has changed. Hiring up and comers just doesn't work in SEC football anymore. Not sure it ever did. However, because of our basketball program (thank god), I have no doubt this is one of the premier AD jobs in the country. We could get anyone we wanted because our basketball and fan base is that good. The question is, will the board of trustees and our president have the balls to make a change in the AD position. I don't think they ever will, so until the fanbase speaks loud and clear (donations), we are stuck with whoever Barnhart hires. He will give Stoops next year to reach a bowl, and then maybe he will make a change in coaching. I want Stoops to succeed. However, 3 different OC in 4 years doesn't translate well to results on the field.

Louisville will lose 4 maybe 5 games this season.
Okay, I'll bite. Which 4 or 5 games are we going to lose? I think there are only 3 that are even possibilities and I doubt we lose all 3. Those would be Clemson, FSU, and Houston.

No way with a kid like Lamar Jackson do we lose 4 or 5 games.

Could very well get it, I do think he'll win at least one of those games. Don't forget the Houston QB was injured vs Oklahoma, a shoulder bruise and that's a thing that can linger.

As for the ranking, it will probably go higher which will cause more angst among UK fans.

Somehow, someway winning has to become a priority to the powers that be at UK, right now it's not.

This is a surprise to whom?

media/press love them some ACC sunshine...

they still have Clemson, FSU, and Houston...and i'm banking on somebody else (Duke, Tech, BC, or Miami) sneaking up on them...and then who knows about that last game against us...maybe it's a cake walk for them and LJ puts up a Heisman game...Maybe things are looking up for us and DB announces himself to the country...

they're a solid 7-9 win team...

Mark Stoops might turn this ship around. but i have yet to see a single indicator that he will EVER be on Petrino's level in terms of pure coaching/scheming ability.

Who has he beat since he's been back at UofL? If they knock off FSU then I'll be impressed but until that happens I'll consider them overrated.

They got a big game on 11/17 against Houston at Houston. This will tell how good they are IMO.

Oh, I think it is - fans and especially boosters and media can bring an enormous pressure on an AD. If football is winning, everyone is happy, from the president and board on down. So I fell pretty safe in assuming that winning is important to Barnhart and the others. Just not 'win at all costs' - he won't hire Charles Manson. But that only takes a few names off the table, my guess - Petrino, Briles, a handful of others. So, to say we won't hire anyone thought to be an outlaw - that might be controversial on this board and a reason to call Barnhart names, but I don't think it's that big a deal. So you eliminate call it 7 guys - several of whom likely wouldn't take the job anyway, how much does that matter? (Example - the Briles thread. No way that dude leaves Texas for UK, so it's all made up stuff to begin with, yet people are convinced the failure to get Briles represents something meaningful.)

I just think it's a really hard job. I wouldn't want to be an AD in this day. First, how many would take the UK job? It's a graveyard. Point blank period. There was a window of time when we could have bought a good coach, because we had money that most schools didn't. Those days are over - you can get $3 million coaching Idaho State or wherever. Why come here and have your career ended in this freaking NFL Southeastern Conference division? Second, it's hard to predict who would succeed, after you remove the ones who wouldn't take the job. We can all list a ton of names of people that were great coordinators who simply weren't good head coaches. Different skill sets. All you can do is roll the dice. There is a reason why the same schools are always good in football, and the same schools are always moribund, and so very few of the mediocre schools step up to become good. And how many of them began in difficult conferences?

no ban was made public. again you resort to making things up. you'd think his transgressions would be bad enough to stand on their own. but since you continue to embellish I guess even you feel they don't carry enough weight.
