It seems the staff is looking for a multi year point guard to add to the recruiting class. They have looked closely at Quade Green from Philadelphia, have talked to Matt Coleman from Norfolk, VA who plays at Oak Hill. Now there is unconfirmed news that they have offered Tremont Waters, who plays for South Kent in CT.

Trae Young and Troy Brown have long had offers but Duke has not been recruiting them. Young is supposedly a package deal with Michael Porter and Porter is not interested in Duke. Brown did not play up to expectations last summer and over the regular season in HS.

Tremont Waters is very quick and a good shooter, the question with him is his ability to get along with teammates (especially Bamba who switched AAU teams away from Waters). It will be interesting to find out if Duke has officially offered Waters and if indeed there is some sort of chasm between him and Bamba.

Waters has been offered, at least according to Verbal Commits. Listed as a four-star. PS: who are you?

What about Trevon Duval?

Tre Jones is class of 18, right? Would certainly like him, Baggley and Romeo.

We'll get Tre Jones. However, last year he wasn't seen as an instant impact kind of guy....now he's blowing up. He's only going to end up being a two-year player and a likely top 10-15 recruit in that class. He's already 6'2".

As long as we're spending capital on the high character/academics/talent guys, and it's K and Capel doing the talking, we'll get the right guys.

Seems to me, a bunch of the high end talent appears to be good students, high character, disciplined sorts. Carter, Bamba, Langford, not to mention the guys we just got.

You see Tre jones as being a 2 year and done??? I always figured he was a 4 year player.

I should have prefaced it to mean he could be a two-year player. The strides he's made from last year are pretty remarkable. He's grown both in height and physical stature....becoming what I would say is a young man. His game has grown too. Tyus was a prodigy in eighth grade already and I think Tre took a bit of a backseat to his brother. Not anymore. I was able to watch Tre three or four times this past season....and he's doing some things as well or better as Tyus at the same stage. With Trent, Jr. on his team he's not being asked to score as much....but he can.

You've seen him more than me and you were spot on with Tyus, so that's great to hear.

DJ what do you think our chances are with Trent Jr.? I just read somewhere, maybe even on another thread, that he is cooling on us a little. Interesting being that he is tight with Carter who seem very solid with us and Knox, who we are also in pretty good with.

Tremont Waters has been offered a Scholarship from Duke. And came out stating he grow up a huge duke fan and has been watching them since he could remember.
Watching him on the circuit last summer reminds me of Quinn cook.
2017 we need a pg. I can see him being a multi year guy and we can still land Tre Jones in 2018

I agree that Waters is indeed a Duke fan and he visited on an unofficial last Fall and played pick up but it seemed Duke would pass on him. But he was so good the last 67% of the prep season at South Kent and extremely good in NYC that Duke offered. The concern is his father in my mind, but not in the staff's, so the uhmmm, difficult or even at times a bit disturbing behavior his father has exhibited at AAU events in the past must be not a strong concern. I just hope this is not Mr. Burgess or "Uncle" of Derryck thing again.
I would see him being able to play with Tre Jones in a line up of two smaller guards, I think that could work out.

I didn't realize Porter had no interest. Where is he likely headed?

Porter is looking most closely at Washington as he is related to Coach Romar and KU is very strong with him. Both his parents on athletic staff at Mizzou, so they must be considered. I would expect UK and the new staff at Oklahoma State to also go strong, with Kentucky you never know. If they really go after someone, they are very good at getting them.

If you rate PG-SG-SF based on attractiveness to recruits, where does PG rate at Duke? Seems SG and SF, Duke gets almost anyone it wants, while PG is a bit more hit and miss, relative to those two positions. Don't follow Duke enough to know if that's real, and, if so, what drives it.

I am not sure how others would react, but I think that Duke does a very good job of getting pg's because K was a pg and he has had many pg's on staff like Wojo, Tommy Amaker, a guy like ChrisCollins and now Jon who were not pure pg's, but played the position at Duke. There have been notable misses, Kenny Boynton, Walls, Brandon Knight, but in general when Duke really goes after a pg they have good or better success. Kentucky has taken some away from everyone, Florida under Donovan. I think Duke is very attractive to 1-2-3's and they have had great 4's in Jabari, Hood, Lance Thomas, Brandon Ingram. The issue has been these guys had to the 4-5 too often in a small ball line up. One can argue that Greg Paulus was overrated out of HSand not as good as most thought he would be, way to slow laterally and not a good quick first step. Nolan was great, Quinn was actually bothered by HS injuries and then struggled a bit until Tyus took over the primary ball handling and allowed Quinn to become a great shooter. Tyus was amazing, better than even most thought. Thornton had ups and downs and was not happy, or certainly his entourage was not happy with his use in the offense obviously. Kyrie was the best player in college ball, but hurt after 11 games...

Well, I am pretty sure that everyone thought that Tyus was "at least" going to stay for 2 years and we know how that went.

Taking nothing away from these kids making their "hay while the Sun shines", I would love to see his little brother at Duke, but keep my expectations low for how long he will stay.

I like the fact that 11 players from the 2017 class have outstanding offers from Duke, and all but one is a 5-star recruit (Tremont Waters). This class is going to be a monster-haul. But we are potentially losing 6 of our top players (3 freshman + amile/matt/grayson), so we'll definitely have spots to fill. Exciting times!

I see Frank as a 2 year player, not because he isn't talented enough to be a 1-and-done, but because he will be playing slightly out of position next year and will need some adjusting.
He is definitely a PG at the NBA level, so 2 years of running the point at Duke sounds like just what the doctor ordered.
If Frank stays, and we get Bamba and Carter (along with other 5 stars).....than word's just don't do it justice.

He was actually offered last week, either on Wednesday or Thursday, but nonetheless he was offered. I think Duke is in pretty good shape here.

Ohh cool. I saw it in Duke 247's fbook page and they said yesterday lol but that's good were in good position looks like he's picking up steam with UK offering as well

Waters played well again this past weekend, it was basically a draw against Trae Young and MoKan Elite. He is extremely quick and can get his shot off quickly, even off the dribble. The problem is again...I mean we do not pick our parents...but his father was escorted out of the gym by Security. I just do not see why K or Cal or anyone would want that man raging around acting like a jackass in Rupp or Cameron.
