The Wells Fargo/Truist at Qual Hollow is sufficient. I'm not sure who is clamoring for a major back there.

PGA Championship has a way of having lesser known players contend, but Quail tends to favor the cream of the crop. Think Scottie adds a major outside of Augusta to his resume.

11 of the last 13 PGA winners have been creamy (Jimmy Walker and Dufner being the exceptions)

Odds show a lot of love for the LIV crew, obviously have to consider DeChambeau as a legit contender, but not sure about the others. I always seem to pick Niemann for my major contests, but have yet to see him in contention on Sunday. Don't think Rahm has been playing all that well on LIV, but has tons of game.

Now that Rory has the career slam, I guess Speith will get a lot of attention, but honestly, 40-1 seems optimistic to me.

Rory is a horse for this course. Can easily see him getting a second leg of the yearly grand slam here.

Spieth played pretty bad yesterday.

Will have Morikawa (+2100) in my handful of player to win bets. Middle to long Iron play is very important at Quail Run (175-225 yards). I NEVER bet the top favorite or two, in golf, not worth the risk / reward. Winning in golf is hard, betting a +350 $20 bet on a favorite, the return is just not rewarding enough for me.

Here are 3 I have loaded and ready to pull the trigger on.

Morikawa (+2100) $20 to win $420 - Has been really close to putting it all together, he will eventually kick the door in.

SI Woo Kim (+5500) $20 to win $1100 _ Seems to always be on the front page in big events. Won the 2017 Players at Sawgrass. Playing well this week.

Seep Straka (+10000) $20 to win $2000 - Very solid and underrated player.

Straka, Morikawa, and Kim are all 3 looking very solid at Truist this week.

Probably will ad Aberg (+1900) and one other one. I usually risk $100 on majors. Do not play non big events often.
Other possible plays :
Xander (+1900)
JT (+2100)
Niemann (+2800)
Hovland (+3400)

*Super Long Shot $10 bet : Byeong Hun An (+12500), or Aaron Rai (+17500)*

If the smallest odds player was to cash, it pays me $380. As opposed to Scheffler (+450) paying back $90 and Rory (+480) paying back $96.

Agree, but from a risk / reward standpoint, not worth it. Rory has look "OK" this week in Philly, hell 13/14 of the holes it is driver / wedge. He has not been sharp thru 2 rounds (-7), Scheffler was simply perfection last week, and put on a clinic. But his putter can go away / get shaky without any given notice. Same with his driver. I see Rory being more of a threat as it rewards long hitters as the rough doesn't really punish you if you miss the fairway, and he is the tour most deadly driver.

On AVERAGE they will win 4/5 tournaments a year (last year with Scheffler was not normal), that leaves a lot of tournaments for the longer odd players to cash. I will play the golf odds, Scheffler most likely will not be as strong as he was last week, he SHOULD regress. Rory has his Masters / Grand Slam so hopefully some of his focus will be off. Morikawa is hungry, been very close, and desperate to finally get a big one.

Would not be surprised if Spieth does not win another major. Frankly, will be surprised if he wins 5 more tour events and that is being optimistic.
He USED to be a elite putter / iron player. Now, he misses routine putts pretty frequently and his irons are not any better. He has fallen off a cliff.

Have said this for several years now. I don’t think he will win again at all. And I am a huge fan of his.

Spieth played pretty bad yesterday.

It's easy to forget Spieth is just 31 years old but he hasn't looked good in some time. When he went on a tear I talked to other golf fans who thought he could have a David Duval-type career of being hot for a short period and then falling off. He hasn't fallen off as bad as Duval did (and Duval's were vertigo/injuries) but he hasn't won a tournament since 2022. And his best finish at the PGA over the last 5 years was a tie for 29th in 2023.

Dufner obviously doesn't want to be there, and Sutton's noggin has gotten huge.

Jack, Gary, and Vijay noticeably absent.

Vijay and Daly are at the Regions Tradition this week, which is a Champions Tour major IIRC. They weren't going to be competitive here so it makes sense that they'd do the Champios event.

I still hate that the PGA is in May. Blame the stupid FedEx Cup "playoffs" for that but having the PGA as the last major gave it an identity. Now its just kinda there.

One reason I recall is that May gives PGA at least a few more opportunities for venues, by August it is too hot in the south and southwest

I don’t think Quail is a terrible course… I think it’s a terrible course for a major.

It’s a standard, run of the mill, bomb and gouge that requires little to no thought from PGA players. That’s come to be expected for most weeks on tour… just shouldn’t be the case for the PGA.

And yes… the same can be said for Valhalla.

LOL....not hardly.

Given the course is one of the favorites for many tour players, inc. Rory and JT, has extensive PGA tour history, and it is in the upper tier of conditioning and layout, it works well for the PGA to have it's championship there occasionally.

Welp, my take has never been more correct. Quail Hollow is a terrible major championship course.

You probably want to sit this one out.....lack of knowledge being first and foremost about QH. Oh, and quotes from actual tour players. Thanks for playing.

Rory... “I thought it was going to feel different just because it was a major championship, and I got out on the golf course yesterday, and it felt no different than last year at the Wells Fargo,” he said. “The rough is maybe a little juicier. But fairways are still the same cut lines and same visuals. It doesn't feel that much different.”

JT on Rory at Quail... "“I feel like a place like this, where it doesn’t necessarily require a lot of thought or strategy off the tee, it’s generally pulling out driver and just I need to hit this as far and straight as possible, and he’s really, really good at that.”

Quail was selected because it's a well kept, big ballpark with plenty of room for the infrastructure needed to host a modern major. That's separate and distinct from the actual course/layout/setup. It's a bomb and gouge... and players like Rory and JT are normally really good at bomb and gouges.

I stated the exact thing about it was a long hitters course. That was before the rains. But we all know cole852 will try to be the smartest person in the room, which 99% of the time, he is the dumbest. Uncanny ability for him to be wrong so much. If only he was half as smart as he thinks he is.

Just my opinion, but with very few exceptions, I would prefer that Majors be played on courses not in the yearly PGA Tour rotation.
