Some of you older guys like me remember Phil Sims playing for Morehead St. and being drafted by the Giants and winning I think 2 super bowls. Well I signed a new client who had pictures of him and "Whitey" that's what he said they called Phil in school. He told me alot of cool stories about Sims and he was one of his receivers back in the day. He also showed me his left hand which has a completely twisted ring finger that he said Phil crushed with a really hard throw one cold morning. A tight end dropped a couple easy passes and the coach lit into Whitey for going thru the motions. Next pass was to my client which he said was a 15yd slant and the ball was thrown so hard it broke his finger in 2 places. It grew back sideways and it looks weird as heck. I know what your thinking but my client wouldn't let me take a picture of his finger so I could post it. Anyway I just thought it was a cool story and thought I would share.

I bet I know your client if he played with him at Southern. My brother was his tight end on the 74 team. I am sure your clients story is legit because his name was Whitey in High a School. It is amazing though that after he was Super Bowl MVP the Southern roster grew to 275 players. LOL
After his holier than thou stance about not using Redskins earlier this season I prefer to refer to him as that announcer from CBS.
His nickname was in fact "Whitey" since he was a kid. Knew him and his brother. His High School coach was a tough ole Marine named Henderson Wilson.
One afternoon after school his brother had a couple of us walk across the street to see his brother throw a football. Whitey was in the 6th or 7th grade. Went to St Rita's grade school.
Whitey threw a football the length of the field which was 60 yards long.
I will say as much as I wanted him at Kentucky he went to the perfect college. Morehead St. The coach let him throw the ball 40-50 times a game when people were not throwing it 40-50 times a game.
Phil went on to become the #1 pick in the draft, the college coach was fired. So that is the real story.
Guy could throw a football though.

Tom Cousineau was the first pick in 1979 when Phil Simms entered the league. I'm not sure where Phil ended up I do think it was in the 1st round though as it came as a pretty big surprise when it happened.
My dad played for PRP at the same time Phil was at Southern. He said PRP and Southern had some battles back then. My dad still has a framed pic of him tackling Phil in the mud during their senior years. My dad has had nothing but good things to say about Phil...apparently they knew each other off the field as well. He said he intercepted a pass of his and almost knocked the breath out of him, so yes I would say he did have a very strong arm.
Not sure about he being a Cards fan. His son did not have a good experience there. Still can't believe UK did not go after him.
