All.... It doesn't reference it (IHSA Handbook - Policies and Procedures -Classification System #17) but I don't believe Phillips has a choice. They will be 5A next season. Ratsy

That’s right, isn’t “playing up” a two year commitment?

Well you have to stay up for two years and most schools can not add 8 to 10 transfer a year to replenish.
Actually if we keep the Mt. Carmel Civil War going, everyone on the Southside will be able to. P.S. it's not just us publics who are benefiting. There are a few CCL vultures circling the caravan carcass.
Shhhh... Don't tell anyone though. We need everyone to focus on Phillips.

Well, had the "humble" Frank Lenti prevailed rather than his ego, his statement would have never been made and the existing controversial replacement would have gone peacefully into the night.

No. Just kinda douchie.

As terrible as you may think it, it is a fact. I have never tried to dissuade anyone from thinking I'm an outspoken, unfiltered a$$hole, but when you want to claim your humble you need to simply turn the other cheek, just like in the Bible, regardless of how painful it might be...sorry for pointing out the obvious.

This is a terrible thought.

Too dramatic???
When you have a son who is on the team you don't want him referred to as carcass, so yes. BTW, the team is in outstanding shape. Transfers have happened at MC for many years, they're used to it, we have plenty more in the cupboard.

Vultures are a scavenger bird that feed on the carcass of dead or wounded animals. It wasn’t an attempt to degrade your son. Lighten up Francis.

And if transfers have happened for years/there’s plenty more in the cupboard, then why do the MC faithful come on here and whine like newborns when it happens. FWIW there have been more transfers to Simeon from MC than Phillips over the past five+ years but they’re not winning so...

Your comment made it seem like anyone left at MC is left for dead, that's there's nothing left, which couldn't be farther from the truth, like Bowie said, it sounded douchie. That's your opinion which is fine, I took offense to it as a father of a player on the team when I heard carcass referring to the player, which should also be fine and expected, cool?

I get it that you have emotional ties to MC but at no point did I refer to any MC players you inferred that due to your personal attachment. I do the same when people bash CPS kids and coaches who work very hard and invest a ton.
I have coached youth football here and trust me when I say that carcass is nothing compared to some of the things your rival recruiters are spreading to keep kids from coming there. Many of whom are from the pro-Lenti camp. Not saying it’s right and I’m sure that MCs demise is greatly exaggerated, but the caravan have been at the top of the food chain for so long, many from the CCL and everywhere else are happy to see turmoil if it can benefit them.

You know ... all the frequent forum chatter about who is going up/down a class, who is/should have a success factor, who is under/over-multiplied or who is trying to avoid whom in the tournament underscores a broken system without a level playing field. These band-aid measures are becoming absurd when you stop and think about what is going on. The time appears to be right for making a definition about boundaried vs non-boundaried and the transfer situation then reflecting such in the tournament system and eligibility to participate. Enough already ... this borders on dysfunctionality.

Morals don't exist in CPS football. It's cut throat and everyone recruits everyone. Coaches call parents from other schools to convince their sons to transfer all the time. With private schools its understandable. However, when public schools start breaking the rules it sets a terrible example. I know for a fact that Phillips has benefited from this. It's a joke and a disgrace to the game.

So public schools breaking the rules is different than private schools doing it?

Private school get their enrollment by recruitment. Public schools aren't allowed to do that. It's that simple.

Holy crap I agree with HHS!?!?

Unfortunately everyone in Chicago, CPS or not recruits. Please don’t preach about morals. I have coached elementary and I am a CCL product. There is dirt everywhere.

OMG me too. I’m taking a screen shot of this since it probably won’t ever happen again until the next planet alignment.

To forum contributors with CPS experience: Generally speaking, how would you judge beginning-of-the-season IHSA eligibility compliance during the 1st couple games of the season considering the CPS district does not even start school until after Labor Day? I am referring to things like correct number of practices, physical exams on file, parent/guardian consents, prior semester grades, transfer paperwork and the like?

It's a joke, half the time the other coaches wouldn't exchange rosters before the game. There are teams practicing plays as we speak with a football. Coming from "REAL" football in the burbs, CPS was a drastic change. I had coaches calling my players attempting to poach them. I left that circus and anyone who knows what I'm talking about would agree.

CPS coaching is very difficult to say the least. I can say that there was a push several years ago to make sure everyone has a physical and many resident doctors get their community service hours in by performing these physicals. Practice is kinda hit or miss because honestly many teams have terrible practice attendance. The major complaint has been scrimmaging against other teams which is illegal and I have gone on record to condemn. Coaches attempt to justify it by citing low roster numbers. 8 man football is desperately needed tbh. It’s tough to discipline many of the coaching staffs because quite a few teams change coaches every other season. The pay is extremely low and in many cases you get what you pay for. For the truly hardworking coaches, it’s is completely a labor of love and a desire to help young men find a way out.

Well said and I couldn't agree more. I helped a handful of kids pursue college opportunities which was great. At the end of the day, I had to make a career choice.

I coached at a CPS school as an assistant on the Southside for a season before moving back home to Miami to coach. It really is rough. Sometimes parents wouldn't let their kids go to practice because they didn't want their kids to walk home at night. So I'd end up dropping kids off. A good day of practice would be 22-23 kids, bad day is 10-11.

I feel like a lot of coaches should have to deal with CPS coaching for at least a season to appreciate what they have wherever they are.

And I respect Phillips and what coach McAllister has done for that program. As cut-throat as you think CPS is, South Florida is worse when it comes to recruiting/transferring. Just part of the game now. Phillips is doing it better than most right now, that's not their fault. Schools all over the city are recruiting, but no one notices when they go 5-4 and get bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

The whole "Everyone is doing it" argument is still wrong.

One of the biggest problems in CPS is that there are no standards. Rules and regulations are constantly overlooked because, "it's the city." This applies to recruiting, practicing, eligibility, improper jersey numbers, coaches on the field during games, referees helping over-matched teams during games, etc..
This is in addition to Sports Admin being unpredictable.

Any good coach in CPS trying to do things the right way is most likely not going to stick around long and move out of the city to coach. In most cases, the juice isn't really worth the squeeze.

If a CPS is not eligible for the playoffs what would be the incentive to follow IHSA rules? It's kind of like Lake Forest Academy.

Well sure but they are eligible in every other sport unlike Lake Forest. But the teams in the intra city level are such a mess no one is going to transfer in because of football.
