"County" is incorporated in the names of a lot of schools, usually as a result of consolidation. Rockbridge High became Rockbridge County High when they were consolidated with Lexington and Natural Bridge. Bland and Rocky Gap combined to become Bland County. Also, it differentiates schools with similar names like Rappahannock County and Rappahannock, Franklin and Franklin County.

I probably have it included in the names of schools where it doesn't actually belong. If you know of any situations like that, please let me know and I will update my spreadsheet.

Thanks. It's a very curious situation. I googled all the "county schools" and found that some use "county" in the name some times and some times not. Charles City is an example. I found instances where they do sometimes, but their webpage omits "county". Essex and Middlesex do not, however Middlesex's logo is the letters M and C intertwined.

I dropped "county" from a number of schools, but left it where I found it has been used by the school. The media often gets this wrong, just I have. I know Narrows fans get annoyed whenever the media mentions Giles County Spartans. I overcorrected. lol

I found that schools in the eastern part of the state are less likely to have "county" in the name than in the western part. I have no idea why.

Interesting point on Middlesex logo. They do have the MC logo right on their home page but it doesn't say Middlesex county. King and Queen another interesting one. Listed as King and Queen for the VHSL but go to the county website and it is Central High School but the elementary school is king and queen elementary.

Middlesex mascot is the CHARGERS, so I imagine the "C" in the logo would be for that not County
