This is an awesome story. Good on Grayson for doing things like this and not even for publicity sake. Unfortunately, there is literally nothing he could do to change the minds of people who already hate him because of some unsportsmanlike plays in a basketball game.

There is and hasn't been any doubt that Grayson is a great kid. Works hard, studies hard, and plays hard. Has he done a few stupid things, yes, but never, and I mean never were any of these incidents 'vicious', like we see quite often...such as punching someone out. He's aggressive as hell, but I love that part of him.

I can't remember where I saw them, but there are a few more heartwarming stories about Mr. Allen. I think he has a career in the NBA, but even if he doesn't he'll make something else work for him, because that's the type of person he is. Works too hard not to be a success.

And no matter what else anyone calls him, they can also call him a 2015 National Champion, and a 2017 ACCT Champion...and it's not over with yet.

And all these things make Grayson Allen one of my top 2 or 3 players of all time.

I read this in the voice of Dicky V for some reason.

Great post, thanks for sharing. Kind of puts this player hate crap in perspective! Always have loved this young man, and even knew before he got to Duke that he would be one of my all-time favorites.
Just don't understand why the media can't do a follow-up on a story like this, so to the media I would only say: GRAYSON IS AWESOME - Don't question it......Just deal with it!
Go Duke!

Hahaha the media pick up a good story on the evil, entitled white kid. Fat chance.

Anybody else catch Dillion Brooks last night deliver his second low blow of the year??? Think there's a chance he gets crucified for that by ESPN?? Didn't even see a replay of it on sportscenter. The double standard amazes me.

Uh, I don't quite get how people could pick Grayson as a top two or three all time player, unless they are SUPER young. Grant Hill, Shane Battier, Jon Scheyer, Nolan Smith, Bobby Hurley, JJ Redick, Johnny Dawkins... There is a long, long, LONG list of great players and great guys at Duke that would be tough to beat out. Heck, tough to beat out Quinn Cook from just a few years back...

Have to read what people are saying...not that he's the Number 2 best player to ever play for Duke. There's many WAY above him. He's THEIR favorite #2. I remember all those guys very well but in my Top players Grayson ranks in those Top 2-3.

Someone must be cutting onions around here. Why is it that so many of the most amazing people pass before their time?

Grayson has made some mistakes, no doubt. He also seems to be a good person at his core. As in most things in life, it's not black and white, but some shade of grey. Unfortunately, our society as a whole isn't capable of interpreting grey. Black and white is all too often the limit of their ability.

Oh no no, I understand. I mean, some of it is about being a great player, of course.. Not a lot of people say Dave McClure or Marty Clark are their favorite players, despite them being great guys. But we've had some fantastic kids come through, and I am a wee bit surprised when someone holds Grayson, as good as a kid as he is, above nearly everyone who has come through, you know?

No biggie, just conversing. My own favorites would be Shane, Grant, Jon, Nolan, and Kyle, I think? And maybe Quinn.

Uh...I've been rooting for Duke for over 50 years, so I remember the greats. Perhaps I didn't clarify myself when I said Grayson was one of my top 2 or 3 players of all-time. I didn't say he was the the best, but to be fair to you, I didn't say he was a 'favorite' either. I'm rectifying that mistake here, and now. Grayson is one of my all-time favorite players...period.

Yeah, I figured from your OFC tag that you were an old fellow. Just surprising to see Grayson at the top of that list, given how many fantastic kids we've had come through Duke and, if I can be honest, the issues that Grayson has had this year.

Thanks for helping me clarify too! There are so many to choose from. The special they had on Grayson a while back was awesome. I think ESPN aired it. Nolan is another of my faves. Every time my kids have snapped a pic with him he's always got that huge bright smile and he acts like he's known you forever. My son would rank him high too. My son played a game on Cameron's court during a Women's game and won. Nolan was yelling and cheering his name when he won. Totally made his day!!! I don't care what anyone says but there is something special about all those kids that come through Duke.

Yeah, I can understand that. But Laettner is my favorite player...by far, and he wasn't an angel. Grayson, to me, is a smaller (little less skilled) version of Laettner. I love his aggressiviness, and warrior mentality. If Laettner played college ball now he'd be permanently banned.

Ah, that explains a lot:). Christian was never one of my favorites... I actually didn't love his edge, as much as it helped him win... He was bad as hell, though:)
