Believe he skipped college wrestling to go right into international freestyle, which didn’t work out as good for him as it did Cejudo. With NIL now, he may have reconsidered that choice, even if he was a bad student. Some program would fix his grades for him.

They pretty much threw him right to the wolves out of the gate. Murphy was undefeated and no joke. Not the way most talented fighters start their UFC careers…
But it’s also not like Pico has been just making his way up the amateur ranks. He was a known commodity and proven.

His opponent was very good, but Pico should have won that. Over aggressive. Feel bad for him and hope he can climb back up the ranks.

This.

all the physical tools are there. Fight IQ is trash and over-aggressiveness is killing him.

Bellator is not UFC. Just cause one is successful there it doesn’t always translate over to UFC. If Pico had any sort of chin he would be very very tough to beat; unfortunately his chin is trash.

Wrestling fans absolutely have a bias when wrestlers fight in MMA. I knew that was going to be a very tough fight for him and he needed to be at his very best to have a chance.

Make no mistake, that wasn’t a “should” have won fight where the other guy got lucky. That was a guy every bit at his level, if not better…

Pico is what the old boxing guys used to call an action fighter, and with his name and the fact that he is an American, that will keep him in the UFC. (Very much like Cody Garbrandt who, although he has been on a terrible streak for years, always really brings it.)
But it might be a long time until he gets near the top of the card again.

What comment? What could of been? Its true. Or gave it up to get KOd over over? True also

Make sure you don't leave out the entire statement.

He signed a 7 figure deal while still in high school. The kid loses his first fight and buys a horse. Do you understand the kinda money you have to have to buy a HORSE???

It's MMA. He lost. But he would have never made the same kind of money wrestling. He would have made zip zero NIL money, and made SOME money wrestling for good olde USA.

He didn't trade $h!t. He chose to make millions doing what he loved more. Fighting. And he's plenty young enough even now, to make more millions.

I grew up on a horse ranch, my entire family (aside from me) were into showing them.

My dad had a little joke about horses. How do you make a little money in the horse business, you start with a lot.

Pico followed his heart and the money followed, imagine that. He was as good at boxing as he was wrestling. He was Golden Gloves boxing champion when he was around 13
He didn’t want to wait four years to
Try and be an Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Champion. He took one shot at it and moved on. He signed his contract soon after and that was it.

1) he hasn't fought anyone prior to Saturday. I heard one podcast that suggested no one in the T50.
2) Bellator folks don't generally get gifts coming in. Guessing they sign bigger contracts and therefore get rushed a bit. At the same time, that's partly on who is managing him.
3) He's all offense and reckless. As such, he's going to get caught.
4) Be interesting to see if his chin is washed. He's still young, but he's had some brutal KOs

The ufc event is in Shanghai this weekend. It starts at noon Pacific time. That’s 3:00 am in Shanghai. wtf?
Since it's an American company they try to cater to American viewership times. A few fighters complained about that at a UFC event in (somewhere in Europe) because they had the fights starting at like 5:00 or 6:00 am local time over there.

Pico was dominating the fight until he got caught. Leander 75% more significant strikes and had already taken Murphy down multiple times before getting caught with a spinning back elbow.

That’s happened to him at least a couple times hasn’t it? Granted, it’s been awhile since he lost a fight, not counting the flukey shoulder/collarbone injury or whatever it was.

Pico has a very aggressive style that also leads to major holes in his defense. There is a very legit reason he has lost more than half a dozen times.

Now, I am not dogging him. He is a very entertaining and talented fighter, but he is also very beatable and wrestling fans have to accept that…
