Woolfolk already better than Shaq Carter? That's a pretty good backup center right there if you need tough defense. Really going to push Reiber.
With Miller sidelined for the time being (knee scoped, doesn't sound long term at all), Simpson getting all the run as a backup G. He's going to contribute EARLY and OFTEN, as he's really the only "quick" guard who can break things down on offense.
That's how I read it - that Woolfolk is ahead of Shaq at the point they arrived on campus. Still good news, though.I believe he was saying Woolfolk is starting out better than Shaq Carter was when he was starting out, but I'd have to read it again.
True. I was just curious - before he decided to focus on basketball, I wonder what the level of football interest was with him? Seems like a pretty athletic guy who works hard at whatever he does. Interested to see what football programs reached out initially.A true freshman who was a 2 sport athlete originally planning on playing football in college being ahead of where a highly rated JuCo transfer was is very encouraging
I could be wrong but I believe he was going to Cincinnati as a TETrue. I was just curious - before he decided to focus on basketball, I wonder what the level of football interest was with him? He also called the 2020 class his best ever, let's not fall for all the coach speak hypeA true freshman who was a 2 sport athlete originally planning on playing football in college being ahead of where a highly rated JuCo transfer was is very encouraging
And that was a very solid FB offer."On Oct. 4, Woolfolk announced he is committed to play basketball in the Big Ten at Rutgers. He also considered an offer to play football for the Cincinnati Bearcats as a tight end."
He’s not saying that this year and Carino was the one who made the comments on Chol. I just love our board contrarians. Allow yourself some optimism in October - it’s a good thing and it won’t kill you.He also called the 2020 class his best ever, let's not fall for all the coach speak hype
C’mon man. Yes, because this program has sucked over the past three years. You can’t believe the hype
No because it’s just hype .C’mon man. Yes, because this program has sucked over the past three years.
The track record suggests otherwise. No because it’s just hype .
you can be excited , sure
Gotta take the comments with a grain of salt until the freshmen play in actual games, but this is all great news. The biggest weakness last year IMO was the lack of bench scoring. We need some of these guys to be able to contribute in that area this year, and/or Reiber and Hyatt/Mag (whichever does not start) ready to come in and score, too. I'm hopeful that the potential for depth and a full non-conference slate will help Pike develop a deeper rotation once B1G play starts in earnest.
Mag breakout was going to happen last year. Really hope he stays healthy all year. If so, I expect big thingsThis - especially at the end of the season no bench had to play a role in game outcomes - there were end of games where the starters had to play tue last 10 minutes.
This will help during those stretches to give guys a blow.
I also think the Mag injury hurt a lot here. He was rounding into form and missed several weeks.
