I never understood the anger about him flipping a bird. When you yell insults and/or obscenities at someone what do you expect?

Cal can coach for one game. It's up to his players to do everything else. If Arkansas beats KU, the players have to win the next round on their own. If they have the right path, they can make it to the elite 8. If Cal has to coach 2x in a weekend for 3 weeks straight fuggeddaboutit

It is amazing to me that this guy left, went to Louisville, flipped off UK, everyone hated him, and then he has success so everyone decides they like him again. A bunch of bitches. He cussed UK. While he said he shouldn't have left, he has a UL tattoo. Everyone hated him on here, now everyone loves him. I swear.

Yeah. I don't get it either, but there's a lot of "wish I was getting back together with the ex" kinda vibes around here.

Bros, to come back just in life in general after he had to admit he only lasted 15 seconds (and I'm not making fun of him, as in March 24th 1998 at 13 years old I did the same thing) and to not only come back from that, squirting to the ceiling and paying a player is remarkable. Turned Iona into a tournament team his second year and now has St. John's as a very dangerous 2 seed in his second year is incredible! He's an incredible tournament coach too. His only sweet 16 loss was to us in 2014. He was 11-0 before that game and it led to the greatest Internet meltdown I've ever seen. IYKYK.

I actually think Cal is a better person. Pitino is a sociopath. Cal was the better coach proven by his 8-1 record vs Pitino at UK but he became consumed by his "ending generational poverty" instead of adapting to the game's changes.

Pitino has rediscovered himself. Good for him. But he's still that guy who would glare at you if you approached him with your kid.
As a kid who approached Pitino, I do not concur.

I'd rather be flipped off then talked down to in a condescending tone and gaslighted about my basketball knowledge.

Cal used his platform as the Kentucky coach to benefit people of the Commonwealth more than Pitino ever did. That raises him in my eyes.

Rick Pitino is a morally abject person who only cares about himself and what benefits him. He’s a great basketball coach but just a seriously terrible human being. Bobby Knight had arguably the greatest basketball mind in the history of the sport but he was a flat out terrible human being.

I know we don’t need another thread on this but Pitino is everywhere. And so happy. I wish him all the success. Even when he flipped us off in Rupp I knew I didn’t really dislike him. He is kinda real. He loves what he does and he cares. He can joke and he can self deprecate.

Cal looks miserable. He can never joke. He only laughs when he is condescending or being sarcastic. And he’d never joke about drinking Jameson. I think he hates what he does but he loves spotlight instead of the “process” (his words).

You pick who you want to have a beer with.
Pitino DID NOT flip us off. He flipped off the 1 or 2 fans in that corner of Rupp Arena that no doubt was giving him hell as he was leaving the court after a loss. IF he wanted to flip off the UK fans after the game he would have walked out to center court extended both middle fingers in the air & done a 360 degree turn. I repeat. He DID NOT FLIP OFF THE UK FANS!!!!!

Yep! If one of his former players weren’t the current coach they’d all still hate him. Matt Jones helped make his life hell after that prostitution thing and now they’re all buddy buddy. Saying something bad about Pitino is fighting words to some on this board nowadays lol.

I think Exhibit A of the "Cal can't coach" narrative is his non existent coaching tree. All those years, you'd think ONE assistant would grow his own successful program
Or maybe Cal got into the HoF without help?

Where look at all the help Pitino had.

😜

They are both damn fine basketball coaches and UK is fortunate to have had them both.

We can only hope the rest of our future coaches live up to the standard they kept going.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses and both men were the right man for UK when they were hired.

This is a hard choice. Would I rather see Cal lose in the first game or get shellacked by Pitino in the second game. The answer is yes.

How fun would it be to see them get into it?

I think we're conveniently forgetting that Kansas could beat them both

You can tell Cal hates being in podunk Arkansas. But he did coach at Memphis, which may be a worse area to live in.

I want Cal to beat Kansas and then have Pitino spank him.

I could never pick either of them. They're both trash and I'm happy they are nowhere near the Kentucky program.
Yeah. Remember last year when Pitino threw his players under the bus? If I had time i would dig up that thread. He was torn apart on this site. Now, Pope likes him so he is revered here lol.

I don’t care which one wins that game. But I do want Cal to beat Kansas just because it’s Kansas.

Then we can put more wins between us and them. I would want Pitino to beat Kansas if Cal can’t.

I like your win margin reasoning and would love to see Pitino take him out but another first game loss would be pretty rough for him and the Arkansas fans to swallow. Hmmmm

Interesting almost everyone who sees cal comments on how he’s lost weight and looks great and happy.

I think a lot of Kentucky fans just can’t be happy without wishing cal is miserable.

It’s actually pathetic. Cheering for a guy who went to our hated rival, flipped off fans and said a ton of negative things, supplies kids with hookers and embarrassed the hell out of himself and us(by past association and future bc a lot of fans can’t get over cal). Meanwhile, nothing like that has happened from the one so many hate.

Kinda funny to watch

Keep telling yourself that. He flew the bird to the crowd as he left Rupp. Maybe deserved, but he did it. He coached our biggest rival. He calls Lexington Camelot, yet has a UL tattoo. I won't even mention his moral issues. Calipari is a much better person. Not as good of a coach, but a much better person. The dichotomy of people here that all of the sudden love Pitino, yet hate Cal is crazy.

Yeah. I won’t comment too much on Cal because I know he’s public enemy number 1 here. I get it. But you can always tell it’s the young guys, only familiar with the last half of his career who say he always had more talent. The first half he had hardly any talent. He beat Rick, who had I think 10 NBA guys, with Marcus Camby and 4 other guys who wouldn’t get picked at the Y.
This is BS. The rest of that UMass squad was very good despite the lack of stars next to their names

I can't speak for others and nor can you. I never hated the guy. I don't understand why some fans think just because they gained access to an arena that gives them the right to say whatever they want to coaches and players without retaliation. Fans shouldn't dish it out if they can't take it. Some of UK fans deserved to be flipped off.

I can’t believe I read someone typed “Cal was the better coach”! You’ve got to be kidding, right? Cal had an 8-1 record vs Rick because he was able to RECRUIT 30 NBA first rounders - which he had no idea how to “coach”. Rick has more “coaching” ability is his right pinky toe than Cal 🤣🤣.
Also, I think both are what most would consider sociopaths or at least egomaniacs. They’re always right and everyone else is wrong except them. Very similar in that regards.
Cal beat the best team we ever had. That pitino ever had. He refused to adapt and pitino really hasn't adapted either he's just better at coaching. Also I don't know if you know this, but part of being a college coach is the ability to get those players. Cal is gone and I'm happy about that. But it's not like it was 6 to 4. He OWNED Rick. I believe it's because they are both too stubborn and if Rick was 20 years younger I'd want him back. At his age, I don't. We'd be looking for another coach in a few years

My jump shot's long gone !

hahahaha 😂 classic ! Love it. But either Pitino gets to move along or Cal does. One of them gonna lose coaching against the other. I thought they'd surely work Kentucky into that narrative, but they went away from that angle with the brackets.

If you think about which coach actually owns the head to head .... you'd be fair to think CCC is gonna win this game with the Johnnies.

But I suspect Pitino's team is far too good to lose to Arkansas's matchup. It looks to be a nightmare matchup for the Hogs. But what do I know ?

win win as much as anything this game, says yoda. Just like the Chokehawk game getting here!

Funniest thing is how Arkansas actually responded as a team once they got to the Kentucky game. They've actually put effort commensurate with their ability finally, this year. It was a rollercoaster year for Cal and the Hogs to go out on. even if they lose this game. They'll think the future is bright and be happy spending money like everyone else.

But here's the dinger .... haven't we heard that story before ? I know I have.

I'm just happy to have Coach Pope and this team to follow through to the end this year. No Indiana, No Louisville, No Kansas, all out already - if we get UNC*** safely out (nice that the rebels are handing it to them so far .....) then we get dUKe out. somehow. throw the entire SEC at them I guess. And screw the SEC, too, anyways. I've gotten to detest the hateful lot of them all. When Kentucky is out, I really won't give a rats ***. OH not to forget about UConn. Get them out for sure this year or I'll literally throw up some in my mouth.

I just say kill us to get us out this year.

Go Big Blue !

I don't really care which system a coach uses if it produces victories. The last time I looked, style doesn't produce championship banners, great coaching does. Cal surrounded himself with great talent. He was successful until Coach K out recruited him for the best talent. The one trick pony was clueless when he no longer had a decisive talent advantage.

Opinions are opinions even if they are wrong... you, of all posters, should understand that
Not sure what you are saying about me, but I'll live with my post. If you are going to criticize some one and say "I'm sure he has issues too" without any evidence he has issues, that is bs.
