I still can't understand the down grading Pitino recieves from some of our fan base, it really blows my mind. He left us, he admitted he made a mistake, but hell money talks, anyone would've have left for that type of money and power. I won't bash the guy at all, because and so true, he picked us up (UK) when the NCAA all but buried us!
He is a traitor and always will be seen by most of us as one. He had many other offers but he chose to stick a knife in our backs instead. K would never take UNC for love or money. That is because K is honorable. Pitino has no honor.
Your final line is nonsense. We made him. He served his purpose MUTUALLY but there were others who could have done the same thing. Aside from BCG, all of our coaches have been successful.
Nobody hates him for leaving UK. Most of us would've made the exact same move.
We hate him because he chose to coach to our arch rival when other jobs (UNLV, Michigan) were open and he thought we'd all become big Louisville fans because of him. Then when UK fans made it clear we would root against our own parents if they were sitting in that chair, he started taking little jabs at our program, recommended we hire terrible coaches in Pelphrey or Ford to replace OTS and BCG.
I am appreciative of what he did for us ... 20 years ago. However, if Cal pulls off 40-0, most of us will forever say "Rick who? Oh yeah. that guy who coaches Jefferson Community College."
I am damn sure that you would understand it if you lived in Louisville. Their fans still to this day rub it in every chance they get. Like others have said, he could have, and should have, taken a different job. Like someone also mentioned, he took constant jabs at us as well. Does anyone remember "small minded fans"? Also called us "the school up the road".
