If he had stayed at UK, he would probably have won 7-9 titles and been regarded as the best coach ever in college basketball. Ego got the better of him and it’s obvious he regrets it more than anything.
Would’ve been really hard to say no to the Celtics. Had the ping pong balls landed differently maybe the Celtics situation works out. Had he stayed at UK he would’ve been on track to win more NCAAT titles.

Sixteen years of waiting for a title AND THEN FINALL

……oh, wait.

No.

Never mind 😞

Seriously if we had sent him there undercover to destroy them how could he have done it any better?
I know! He should have a statue for all he won at UK and the harm he brought UofL. Even just psychological it’s worth it.

I think 5 titles and probably 12 final fours. I think he would be coach K’s equal at worst. Five titles is a lot, anything more would be a ridiculous pace.

If Pitino had stayed, that level of success would not have lasted. Everything goes in cycles. However, it certainly would've been better than the Tubby/CBG years.

However, I've never been convinced that Pitino would've won that title in '98. And titles are so hard to come by, I would not trade that title for what might have been with Pitino.
