Wow. What an *** kicking that was. Totally didn't expect that. I figured Gretna had a good shot at winning but not by 32. Heiman has a looooong way to go if he's going to be a D1 basketball player. Gretna's tallest player on the floor most of the night was 6'3 and Heiman didnt do much and was pushed around most of the night. Hopefully he hits the weights hard and develops physically.

Umm, he's a basketball player. They don't do weights. Weights are like cryptonite to b-ball kids.
Heiman will be a good player eventually. Roby was a toothpick a year ago before he hit the weights.

Duby has never lifted a weight. Look at him. Clearly Buster won’t have to either.
I never said he wouldn't be, just that he has a long ways to go. Miles can't afford to not take a chance on the kid. I hope he ends up being like Eliason from Chadron. I remember watching that kid in the state tourney and wondering how he would cut it at D1. Turned out to be a pretty nice player.
You give Gretna coaches essentially two weeks to prepare, they'll beat most teams. Heiman has some good footwork, but is really soft .Gretna is solid 1 thru 5, with talent off thr bench .platteview had thayer and heiman, who were both neutralized .
You never know how a kid's going to turn out. Maybe Heiman is expected to grow another x amount taller. To add on to other comments in this thread, it's also no different than Miles gnabbing Wes Eikmeier out of Fremont Bergan for Colorado State a few years ago. IIRC, Colorado State made the NCAAs a year or two in a row with him on the team... You just never know.
I'm sure that was the game plan. Have some football players with leverage push him around. See what the refs let you get away with.
Got to take your hat off to Gretna. How did that high school with 900 kids beat the high school with less than 300? Amazing how those Dragons keep winning! Must be the coaching.
It wasn't too long ago that Gretna was on of the smallest Class B schools. It is amazing how fast it has grown. It is a weird change to see them go from scrappy undersized school to dominate large school.
But pushing Buster around wasn't really the gameplan. It was having Gretna's 6'4 five man play the perimeter and hit wide open 3's, forcing Buster to play outside the paint. Then hit back cuts. On the other end, Gretna gave up the 3 to crowd the paint. Plattview couldn't capitalize on the open looks.
Is Gretna what Elkhorn was 20 years ago as a town and its growth?
If you watched the game, it was Platteview doing the pushing around, at least on the perimeter defense. They go away with more hand checking than I've ever witnessed in a game.
Ironically that school of 300 has a division I recruit playing basketball, and another on schollie to Wayne State (who had as many fouls as points). Platteview coach didn't adjust at all on offense. In fact, he wore his guards out by having them play denial defense on players who weren't going to hurt them offensively.
Don't worry though, Gretna will be A for the next four or five years. When you will have to worry, is when Gretna builds the second high school....then you'll have two Gretna teams to worry about.
You have to give credit to asst. coach Bill Heard also. Feeken has had some talented kids and good teams over the years, and he works and prepares the kids as well as anyone. But, they have really taken off since Heard joined his staff. The guy is a great coach, and the fact that he is willing to take second chair at Gretna when he could be running his own show at pretty much any school in the state says a lot about the guy. (he is head softball coach, and took over a program that had fallen a cliff and promptly took them to 4 straight state tournaments including a championship, runner up and 3rd place finish the last three years)
