Immediately after the reports of Dawson being gone as OC, multiple players such as Blake Bone, Patrick Towles, Alex Montgomery and others tweeted happy face emojis and prayer hands saying thank you. Really speaks volumes to what was going on this season..

Wow I just seen that. What an incredible piece of information unfolding.. He is hinting Stoops is using Dawson as a sacrificial lamb and shouldn't have been fired. Towles also tweeted and "X and a Goat" like Dawson was a sacrificial lamb.

Hard to say exactly where the fault lies: Dawson or Stoops or combination. Obviously, there was a severe lack of development as the season wore on. Seems like many of the same mistakes were made game after game. In most/all games, there were multiple series that playcalling was extremely questionable (at best) and just a downright joke at worst. Strategically, it didn't seem like we ever schemed to take advantage of whatever matchup we had or to put the defense back on their heels. Way too many long stretches of completely inept offensive production with little to no noticeable adjustments being made in-game. Not sure we'll ever know where it went awry, but Stoops needs to pick an OC and trust him to do the job 98% of the time (maybe, once in a while a trick play or a 4th down call).

Stoops knows he had to make changes to keep the fans interested. If he loses the fans he ultimately will lose his job. Whether it was his fault or Dawson's fault it doesn't matter now. He just better hope he hits a homerun on this hire. Unfortunately he probably will bring in a buddy from a previous job like Coley (not that he couldn't do a good job). We don't need another good old boy's club at Kentucky again. I hope we go after someone from Baylor.

Based on Bruce Feldman's reporting via Dawson, the now former OC is trying to get out in front of this firing to save his future reputation, he is playing up the fan perception that Stoops handcuffed him, held back his explosive high scoring offensive system

I'm guessing the ones on here defending Dawson didn't bother to watch the Vandy game?

Many have said Stoops called the run plays against Vandy. I don't know the truth but we need a huge name. How much would Kiffin cost to take away from Bama.

I guess that run up the middle with 45 seconds left against auburn was a great call by stoops.

Considering it was the pass plays that killed us vs Vandy, maybe Stoops should've been calling the plays....

I don't think Kiffin is available. Joey Freshwater, maybe.

Believe the Dawson experiment was doomed from the start. Stoops & Dawson did not see eye to eye on in-game decisions, delegating, philosophy

And I got blasted on here for saying that's why Brown left and why our O hasn't developed since Stoops has been here. He keeps his OC handcuffed. Micromanages every aspect. Brown wanted out after the first year. Dawson was pissed at the restrictions placed on him. This staff has spent the last 3-4 yrs recruiting an air raid O and stoops wants them to slow down and ground-n-pound. Stoops is the problem. Blast me if you want. But we will not get a decent OC now because word is out in the coaching ranks about how Stoops runs his program.

What about the defense that was awful in most games? Eliot is as lost as Dawson imo, butstays because he and Stoops have been together a long time. EKU and ULL torched his D. EKU and ULL.

What do you expect from a defense that absolutely lived on the field? Who had an offense that couldn't even get a 2 minute 3 and out. The defense played really well in about 6-8 games, what else can you do when you're 1 deep and have to play 40-45/60 minutes?

Hopefully, Coach Stoops will find an OC that will be totally compatible with his offensive philosophy (whatever that is), so that OC and head coach are on the same page. After watching two OCs from the "air raid" tree with decent to good success elsewhere all but abandon the vertical passing game and fail miserably under Stoops, one has to question what type of offense Stoops really wants to run.

Furthermore, any OC, no matter how experienced and how good, will have his hands full in developing an OL that can actually pass block, a receiving core of stone-handed receivers, and running backs that can't or won't pick up the blitz.

I feel the same way been saying it for awhile. There were plenty times the defense stepped up. The offense never did. People keep hating on Elliot not saying he's great but the offense didn't really give him a chance to succeed.

Nothing to see. Stoops just making the usual move for himself. Won't change a thing. Stop over analyzing.

Um. Dawson is terrible. I don't see how anyone thinks he had 'decent' success elsewhere considering he's never called plays at the D1 level. It doesn't get more predictable than Dawson. Run up the middle out of shotgun from the one 3 straight plays? You frickin kidding me?

He likely is a sacrificial lamb, I always find it absurd to fire any coach after 1 year but the offense was miserable this year. I'm hoping we can get someone with some experience at the position. Allegedly if you believe WV fans Dana Holgerson did all the play calling. Wish Dawson luck.

I'm sure in a few years he'll reappear somewhere and end up being a hot commodity. Seems to happen to our assistants all the fricking time.

Brown left because he got a D1 head coaching job, c'mon

if he were miserable believe me he could have let it be known in a very loud way with his close connections to Vaught

Disagree. Please name the 8 games the defense played really well. Overtime to beat EKU and barely beat ULL. Gave up 30 or more in those games.

So the running plays inside the 3 yard line didn't hurt us?

Not being able to go under center is on the OC. Towles audibled into pass plays on 2nd down both times, one being an INT. Towles being able to audible into passing plays would also be on the OC IMO.

Also, 4th and 1 from the 50 and we throw a 30 yard go...

I mean I would love to have Pelini with this defensive talent we have and are getting, But I still really don't dislike Eliot. He had his guys ready to go against Louisville, had a great 2nd half against Auburn, played phenomenally against Florida(allowed 3 ypc). Our offense hurt us in all 3 games, ready to see what happens next year, hopefully we'll have some depth.

Stoops needs to seriously sit down with his brother over Christmas dinner and pick his brain on how much leeway he gives his coordinators. I wonder if Bob interferes with Lincoln Riley's play calling as much as we are led to believe Mark does. I would have thought that Mark at least partially molded his coaching philosophy after the successful coaches in his own family.
