Will the SEC ever go to this? I think having conference games by mid-December so that you can have non-conference games later is a good idea. Am I wrong?

The tradiationalist in me says conference play begins in January, but I like the idea of a couple December conference games in exchange for an OOC game or two during conference season.
Closest thing I remember is we played Missouri at home around Dec. 28 in the 2022-2023 season.

The traditionalist in me says you play every conference team a Home & Away pair of games. But that is long gone too.
I think it's because there's an expanded number of conferences games in some conferences causing them to have to start a bit earlier than normal.
Big Ten and Big 12 play 20 conferences games compared to the SEC playing 18.
Actually looks like the ACC and Big East also have 20 conference game seasons.

That being said, I wouldn't hate it.
Lots of college basketball fans don't seem to tune in until conference season anyways. Might get them into it sooner.
