Very nice article in The Athletic discussing the Cats game against MSU. While the article focuses upon MSU and its struggles in the game, it does spend a little time discussing the Cats play this year. The author makes the point the Cats are playing with some “giddy-up“ this year. Correctly described as historically being one of the more methodical teams in the B1G, the Cats average possession length this year is 14.2 seconds, which is 7th in the nation. In the previous 8 years under Collins, average length of possession has been between 17.6 seconds and 19.7 seconds, with rankings of between 210 and 317 in the nation. Three less seconds makes a lot of difference.
So far this year, the Cats certainly are playing with a new style. This team has more overall athleticism than I can ever remember. Coupled with more maturity, this team has (mostly) been fun to watch. Let’s hope the good times continue to roll.
Go Cats! Giddy-Up Cats!
