In 3A, if Richmond Burton has to play Manteno in Round 2, would that be in Richmond or at Manteno? Manteno hosts opening round, but would play on road in Round 1. I am thinking this would be in Manteno, but want to confirm. Thanks

Opening round means absolutely nothing in terms of determining home field. Same as old system. First round games hosted by the high seed then the goofy whoever has hosted less gets the home game. You are not the first to ask and won't be the last.

If Mantino makes to round one, they will be on the road vs St Bede. RB will be at home. For the second round, if Mantino advances , the rule should be Mantino at home as the other team (RB), already had a home game in round one and Mantino did not. I think

They both would of had 1 home game,so RB the higher seed would host

This isn't true based on what is stated on the IHSA website.

"In the Opening Round, the higher seed hosts the game. In subsequent rounds, the school that has hosted fewer times during the current playoff series hosts the game. If both teams have hosted an equal number of times, the higher seed hosts.

When circumstances warrant, a site other than the designated host school’s field may be requested by either school and may be used subject to the approval of the IHSA Board of Directors and the host school.

The game must be played on Saturday, unless both schools agree to play the game on Friday. Friday games must not be scheduled during school hours. Saturday games must start between 1 pm and 7 pm. The schools must agree on the starting time of the game. If they cannot come to an agreement, the IHSA Office will set the starting time."

This is the way I'm reading it as well.

So, since the bye team did not "host" in the first round, they would be the home team regardless of who won the opening round play-in game.

Bye team will host their first game.

The bye team will have hosted fewer times (zero) and will be the higher seed (tie breaker) if their opponent was on the road (both teams hosted zero games)

The old rule still exists for all subsequent rounds. They only needed to clarify since the bye team doesn't play an opening round game.

IHSA website lists the bye team(s) as the "home" team for all 1st round games. The only time location is not listed is CPS teams and that has to do with where they are playing it.

Okay, but are we sure of what the “current playoff series” means? Does it take in all rounds, or is the opening round considered a play in game to round one which is the start oh the playoff series?

I agree the update on social media by IHSA says the opening round will count in determining host in later rounds. Edgytim can you clarify again with IHSA? This was not your understanding per your above message.

Per the message below from IHSA, in my RB/ Manteno example, as Manteno hosted opening round and RB hosted a first round game, they each have hosted once and therefore RB would host Manteno in round 2.IMG_0943.jpeg

RB will host the first two rounds unless Mendota beats Manteno and St Bede. If Mendota beats both, they’d host RB in week 2
