I may have missed this earlier, but I am curious about how it will work this year. With us having 8 divisions, will there still be East and West seedings? And, will every team in 1 A be in playoffs regardless of record?

Currently there are only 7 of the 24 teams with a winning record in the 1A division. The number two team according to Simmons is Wilson Prep and they have a 2-5 record. This should be interesting.

Thanks for sharing any information on how this will work.

The 24, 1A teams' total record combined is 65 wins and 100 losses.
I don't think this 1A through 8A will last past the first 4 years. Maybe stopping at 6 or 7A.
Better yet, go back to 1A to 4A and do the A & AA playoffs.,

I agree. I don’t see it changing back. I am expecting a few more small schools start football programs to fill in the bracket over the next 4 years.
Plus how many more charter schools pop up in the next 5-10 years?

I wouldn't be shocked if the worthless power brokers in Raleigh eventually let private schools into the NCHSAA as well.

To answer your questions, yes there will be East and West. Also, yes all 24, 1A teams will make it.

From NCHSAA:
4.1.16 Bracket Sizes
(a) Classifications 1A-7A will have 48 teams placed on a 64-team bracket (top 16 teams receive byes, additional byes will be awarded when necessary).
(1) Brackets for 1A Championships will be reduced to 32-team brackets when necessary, additional byes may also be necessary in reduced brackets. (b) The 8A Classification will have 24 teams placed on a 32-team bracket (top 8 teams receive byes, additional byes will be awarded when necessary).

I think what you are pointing is their point in making the playoffs this way for 1a. Aside from a few 1a teams, most can’t compete with bigger teams and this puts all the smaller fish in the same bowl. This division will typically be very predictable until deep in the playoffs but it does allow some of the guys a seat the table that were never going to see it otherwise.
I don’t necessarily like it, or agree with it, but I think it was what they were after.

No just parochials which is Bishop McGuiness, Cardinal Gibbons, and Charlotte Catholic currently.
You forgot Christ the King. Look, parochial schools ARE private. The Catholic Church is a private, not public, entity-these distinctions matter. Cristo Rey in Durham is a parochial school, but they play in the NCISAA, so not all NC Catholic schools are in the NCHSAA. I don't mind that Catholic schools play in the NCHSAA, but they are different from the publics.

They are but they are the only private schools allowed in currently.

I think eventually the winds swing the other way and some of these small podunk private schools getting millions in vouchers ask for a piece of the pie.
