24 Teams in 8A. Top 4 teams in East/West will receive byes.
Oh my goodness! Eight teams don't make the playoffs. 75% of the teams make the playoffs. Watered down. Wow. Just make the playoffs for all 32 teams to water things down even more. 7A will be more competitive. I thought going to eight classifications in North Carolina was crazy. We don't have enough schools. To me, this proves it. Should've stopped at 7 classifications, being they were insistent on increasing the classifications.

Yep, 8 is too many. They could have stayed at 4 classifications and did what they used too do for playoffs A and AA

That's what the NC government wanted that took over the NCHSAA. For football agree 8 classifications is too much , but for other sports it makes sense. Under the old format smaller, and bad teams had no chance at the playoffs. This way they at least have a chance and it helps with the complaints. 4, 7, or 8. The same teams gonna win at the top and more parody at the bottom now.

Reality is they should have went to 6 Classifications, then after 4 year evaluate the situation. Then add more if they needed to. I can also see what Bigdadd is saying in above comment.

The Final 16... 8A teams will be very stout...Nearly all of the 32 teams have a winning record...EXACTLY 24 OF THE 32 TEAMS HAVE A WINNING RECORD RIGHT NOW(75%)can't say that for the other divisions....Not even close...We are talking about all 24 playoff teams having a winning record. That's the model....
"That's as perfect as it gets".

8A will be just fine. It's the other divisions that have teams with poor/losing records that make the playoffs that should be looked at...

Agree 100%. People undervalued 8A because of the last 3-4 teams and their records and hyped 7A because of Weddington/Grimsley. Take away Weddington, Grimsley, and Independence 7A is not close to 8A at all. 8A is much better and tougher.

How is that possible?
RPI - West Meck while yes 0-8 and that does hold its vaule to a degree but isnt the only factor - their Opponents record matters so Half their schedule are prob playoff teams like Hough, Statesville, etc and then Opponent's Opponents which i think there too much % of this but Hough has played a tough schedule so indirectly it help teams like West Meck;

Remember the NCHSAA changed the percentages in the RPI this year. 40% winning percentage, 40% opponents winning percentage and 20% opponents opponents winning percentage

Law makers tied the hands of the NCHSAA when they made it a law that each classification could only have 64 teams in it. 6 classification and the law would have had to be changed or make more classifications to give the NCHSAA some wiggle room. Right now 7A has 60 teams. Shifts are going to be made in the next few years with new schools being built and adm's fluctuating.

Yes 6 would have been the best option, but with the laws that were made, 8 made the only sense to abide by the law.

"Law makers tied the hands of the NCHSAA when they made it a law that each classification could only have 64 teams in it."..... the reason why legislators have no business being involved.

Why are all sports lumped together and forced to follow 1 format?
Why are the admin numbers not done yearly?

I ask these questions because technology has advanced yet the process hasn't. Each week a top 10 is provided for each classification, I know the seeding parameters are not used but the information to do so is available at the time.

Admin numbers are set at the 10th day of school and you are telling me we can't have all the classifications set before playoffs start? This would help with schools who have to play up after a new school is built in their area and draws students away. Currently these schools have to appeal each year or wait till reclassification.

The brackets should be set up(but not released to public) week 5 and be a live bracket updated weekly. With the technology and the use of maxpreps in todays world no way this shouldn't be easier than "new Math". Just my two cents

I've said for a long time that bracketing and seeding shouldn't take that long if you already have everything set up weeks prior. There is a reason certain people and certain publications (High School OT) can produce these brackets by the time most of us wake up on Saturday morning and they are only using 1 person to complete this task.

All 24 teams in 8A will receive a bye NOV.7th ...8A playoffs will not begin until NOV. 14th...8 of 24 teams will get a double bye and won't play until Nov.21st...a lot of coaches don't like this...they want to keep their teams playing to prevent rust.

I thought they were doing a bye first round and then the other bye would be before the state championship. I thought I saw that somewhere. Could be wrong.

NCHSAA said today the Extra bye round for 1A and 8A will be December 5th during the regional round for 2A-7A. The teams that play for the State Championship in 1A and 8A will have 2 weeks to prepare for the State Championship!
