Pearl will never be hired at UK.

Doesn’t matter if he should be. Just won’t happen.

In hindsight UK should have made a hard run at May. But that ship has sailed.

Personally I would have made Vogel say no.

Isn’t he like 87 years old?
You know I used to agree with this logic... untill we kept getting old farts to be president ... pitino is older and still burning sooo...

That said Bruce is lower on my list but I'd take him if thats where we got to...I sure as hell know he would have done better than Pope.

Look at his record. I do not want Hurley, Pearl, or Drew. Due diligence and comprehensive interviewing will find our guy. But, I’m giving Schertz the first chance to claim the job.
In 4 years as a D1 HC, he has a 11-20, 23-13, 32-7 and 19-15 record.

At IN st. They went to the CBI in year 2 and NIT runner up in year 3.

At St. Louis, they lost in the first rd of the NIT last year.

This year he is 13-1 beating absolutely no one and losing to Stanford.

Again, based on what?

Schertz has a higher career winning percentage than Calipari, Pope, Pitino, Oats or Pearl.

Pining for Pearl is akin to looking at a poster of Cindy Crawford from the 90's and wishing she would knock on your door for a quickie.

There are younger, hungrier coaches out there with more upside (e.g., Lloyd, May, Oates).

It’s amazing how quickly our fanbase has turned against pope. I’m not saying it’s not warranted, just amazing how quickly things change in 21 months.
I think the last five years of Cal's nonsense contributes to how frustrated the fanbase is...that and watching your blueblood get railed by teams we used to beat by double digits to pad our tourney resume.

All these coaches are miles above Pope and Mitch didn’t give any of them a sniff because of Jeff Sheppard and crew sold their boy Pope.

Pope has had 10 plus years as a head coach to win…..anything……and he has not. What makes people think he can do it here under a microscope.

More like Mitch got told no twice and offered someone who wouldn't say no. History better remember his run as AD for all of the ridiculous mistakes he has made.

I agree. I got flamed when I questioned the hire, but many didn’t want to take off their blue tinted glasses

Most were pretty pissed he was hired but gave him the chance. It appears he has validated what the most initially felt about him. I was extremely mad they hired him initially but still hold him in high regard as a player, but he has failed up to this point and I dont see that changing. Mitch should be held accountable for putting one of our own in a position to fail this badly. The whole wait till JQ plays narrative is dead as well. He is good but he isn’t AD.

Starts with AD. Fire Mitch. He's too conservative and wants to play by the rules. There are no rules anymore.

I think we all questioned the hire then got behind him because there was Jack **** we could do about it. Last year was fun and a certain "what if" with injuries.

This year is an abomination given what our boosters spent and what we are seeing on the floor.

1a. Dusty May-why leave Michigan?
1b. Nate Oats-why would he leave Bama. He may have the ego tho
2. Tommy Lloyd-why leave Arizona
3. Todd Golden-why leave Florida

It’s going to be difficult to pull a guy from the top 4 other than maybe Oats and that’s a HUGE maybe. Oats may just have the ā€œitā€ factor to want to be at the pinnacle. Others at football schools are getting paid well with less pressure. The next coach has to have brass balls that wants to be the Nick Saban of college basketball or it will be trying to hit an up and coming coach with the right personality.

Either way UK’s AD doesn’t have the ability to choose the right guy.

Well, our fan base was disgusted when we learned that Mitch had hired Pope. Then the fraud got everyone on his side with his acceptance speech BS.

He was our coach so we were pretty much forced to have hope and believe in him. After watching the product he puts on the court it’s obvious why everyone has turned against him.

I don't fault fans for having optimism. It was refreshing to have someone at the helm who spoke without cliches (to which we had come accustomed with the never ending Calpari-isms) and understood what being a Wildcat meant. Unfortunately, those qualities alone don't earn wins on the court even if they garner favor off of it.

I understand what you are saying but, no way you can blame this stuff on Cal. Fans are upset because this is an underperforming team, on offense and defense. We will win games but we are well behind the front runners.

It’s been ALL on Pope! He knew the ā€œassignmentā€, he just didn’t know at the time that it takes a stone cold killer on the sidelines, and not the President of the Girl Scout Cookie Society!

He’s learning it now though šŸ’ÆšŸ’Æ
