Could everyone please take a moment to pray for the THR Mod Mike Irby. Mike has blood cancer named MDS or Myleody Splastic Syndrome and the latest update on Mike doesn’t sound good. Rather than me elaborating more please go to the THR forum if you haven’t been banned and read the posts.

Mike and I have the same cancer but his is much more advanced than mine. We also have the same doctor at Duke Cancer Center. My hemoglobin has thankfully been showing signs of improvement. It has been as low as 6.3 few times necessitating blood transfusions but up until this week when it took a sudden drop, it has been as high as 13.3.

Mikes path is now very difficult and he needs everyones prayers.

Thoughts and prayers to Mike and you, @gottagonow . Rivalry means nothing when it comes to someone’s health. Sincerely wishing you the best, Mike. You too, gotta. Fućk cancer.
Thank you for the prayer Beard. Basketball is just a game kids and young men and women play for a few years but just a blip on the screen compared to life.

I visited THR board last night and said a few words to Mike. When reading his daughter's initial post, I found myself just feeling sick and eyes watering up for him.

For me, it's the ultimate reality check in a few ways. No matter the rivalry, no matter if our boys are not playing up to their potential, it's still just a game.

I'm proud of the way I was raised to have genuine concern for anybody going through a terrible situation. For whatever reason, we can find ourselves being selfish and only thinking of ourselves in pity or pissed off mode.

That post is gut wrenching, his situation is unfair, just as many others. Brings home my deceased parents constant reminder growing up. No matter how bad you think you may have it, stop, look around and I promise you will find somebody in a much worse situation. Mike is proof of that this very moment. We included him in our prayers and will continue to do so for him and his family.

@gottagonow, brother the Same applies to you. We will definitely pray for you and your family as well. Keep the faith and keep getting better man. The man above knows best. I freaking hate things like this with a passion. Sorry for the long rant.

For sure. Been wondering how's he has been doing. Thanks for the update. Even though he is an avid fan of our rival no one wants to see something like this. Of course there are prayers sent from me for Mike. I have before for Mike. Glad that you know him and have bonded with him. My thoughts and prayers go out to you also in your battle. Remember the time I met you down at Duke Med. That wasn't a coincidence that we met. Hang in there gotta and let Mike know he has support and prayers from this group. OFC

Gott, thank you so much, we've discussed our mutual disease before. You keep up the good fight Cancer Warrior.

Thank all of you so much. Been a long battle and I'm still fighting. God bless you all.

Hang in there Mike. We are children of our Heavenly Father 1st and we all stand on common ground when it comes to that . May Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ continue to bless you and your loved ones. I really hope you continue to read this thread. Hopefully you will be uplifted. Despite all our differences as far as what program we support we do care over here and are decent people. Skysdad. OFC

Mike I’m glad you posted here. I can’t post on THR (not sure why I was banned), but anyway, even though we root for different teams, we are all still children of God. My family and I are praying for you. Keep the faith my man!

Well, dang....not what I wanted to read today.

Thoughts, prayers and best wishes sent you and your family’s way, Mike. You’ve always been very upfront with your fight against this horrible disease....almost as if to say, “if you’re coming at me, I’m sure as hell coming back at you.” I’m sure you’ve inspired others through your actions.

Best wishes, Mike!

@gottagonow, I hope you know that if it's ever anything you need from this board besides continued prayers, you can be confident we will step up and make it happen. We all have something in common here, our deep love of Duke basketball. In my mind, that makes us all Family!
Indeed it does! Anytime. Anywhere. We are family here!

QC thats very nice of you to say those things but I can only agree with you where my wife is concerned. She is a trooper and a keeper in more ways every day it seems. I am, on the other hand, a scoundrel

Hang in there guys. That goes for anyone who is struggling with any issue-physical health, mental health, job, relationships, etc. For the rest of us, sobering reminder to just enjoy every day, every damn game-win or lose. Embrace your family, friends, neighbors and strangers.
