The reason we went after Mac Jones was because of two reasons. 1.) Dawson had his attention at West Virginia. 2.) He was the best quarterback available to UK at the time AND Danny Clark was not an option for UK at the time.

Now we are on the verge of signing Danny Clark - whom I think is a better fit for UK - but we all have to understand we didn't have a chance with him until Urban Meyer took over Ohio State.

As I said, whether he can produce or not - he is a BIG deal to us and our future recruiting in Ohio. He has the perfect temperament for UK and we are lucky if he joins our class - we didn't lose Mac Jones - we have gained Danny Clark!

Go Big Blue!

No, we lost Mac Jones. Jones would have been an amazing QB here, and I was excited to see what he'd accomplish at UK, but that ship has sailed. That being said, Danny Clark is one helluva consolation prize, but I'm not going to act like Mac Jones wouldn't have been a good fit here. He's the best high school QB in the country; he'd be a good fit at any program.

in 2017 UK's QB depth chart will be

Drew Barker rs jr, 6 games played, 5 starts (assuming no more PT in '16)
or
Steven Johnson rs sr 11 games played, 9 starts
Gunnar Hoak, rs frosh, 4* espn ranking
Danny Clark, true frosh, 4* espn ranking (likely commit)

2018:
Barker sr
Hoak soph
Clark rs frosh/soph
Jarren Williams, true frosh, 4*

why any UK fan is still discussing or bemoaning our former commit is beyond me, we are FINE at this position in our future, plenty of the other 21 spots are more troubling & more in need of worry!

JHB4UK is all over this thread and balls on accurate! The cupboard is far from bare at QB and we need major talent for n the trenches.
Fix the DL and OL with quality and depth and we have all the other components to compete. A great DL will showcase our fantastic defensive backs. A great OL will showcase our terrific WRs and RBs. Not to mention what a great OL would do for our QB if he has time to perform.

Actually, per Rivals, he's number 15: https://rivals.yahoo.com/kentucky/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3669
But, they still show him committed to Kentucky, too (FWIW).

He probably isn't Ala's best qb commit.

I was watching Saraland vs Spanish Fort on ESPNU last Thursday. The announcers spent several minutes discussing Bama's recruiting class. Mac Jones name was never mentioned. They did talk about the QB from Hawaii, but never mentioned Jones.

Saban is clearly all-in on dual threat mobile QB offenses now. the Hawaii QB better fits that need.

Tua T. is the No. 1 DT QB in the nation.
I think that if Kiffin moves after this season, Jones will follow him.

In the last rankings (April 2016 I think) Mac jones was the 15th best Pro style QB in the class. Guess who is #16? Clark

Please explain how DC is the better fit here - besides that he apparently wants to be here. I just don't know enough.

I don't think DC committed to OSU b4 UM was the coach there. If so, not clear why UM being the coach meant UK would get a shot at DC. Now Um apparently changed UM philosophy since he's been there so that would/could explain his dissing DC.

FWIW, DT seems to be the QB trend across CFB & even NFL. Makes me think WW could be our future.

If SJ holds the QB job due in good part to his running ability, Wood could be in the mix here too imo.

Walker Wood is just six feet tall. I could see him performing some wildcat or run option stuff. I think he will get on the field but question that as a full time QB. Too many more durable options in the natural sense.

I do recall the Billy Jack Haskins persona though. He could be that kinda tough and pull off the job.

I agree that Wood might not end up at QB but I believe that Gran told him that he would get a chance at QB.

That is what was reported. He will start at QB and get his shot there first. LeFlors for UL was probably 5'11", but he could throw on the run and was a very good college QB. Height can be a detriment but does not prevent success.
