Remember (rhetorical, I know you don’t) in 2009, when these guys were trafficking organs and laundering money through Israeli charities? You’re told this is the greatest sin to not bow down to them.
“Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, a Brooklyn resident, operated as an underground broker in an illegal kidney trafficking ring from roughly 1999 to 2009. He would locate desperate or financially motivated donors—mostly poor Israelis willing to sell a kidney for $10,000—and then arrange for them to travel to the United States. Rosenbaum would mark up the price dramatically, charging the American recipients (who were often facing long waits on official transplant lists) up to $160,000 per kidney. He handled all logistics, including fake documents to present the donor and recipient as altruistic relatives to hospitals, bypassing federal prohibitions on organ sales.
The surgeries themselves took place in reputable U.S. hospitals that believed they were performing legal, altruistic living-donor transplants. Once the kidney was removed from the paid donor and transplanted into the paying recipient, Rosenbaum kept the vast majority of the profit. Federal prosecutors described this as the first proven case of organ trafficking prosecuted in the United States, with Rosenbaum ultimately pleading guilty in 2011 to three counts of organ trafficking and one count of conspiracy.”
