You're right. Maybe it is for the best. It really is a hardship. Perhaps they should shutter the program. We could focus more on football and the olympic sports, where there's not as much pressure and emotion.

The fact that we suck @SS, and have one of the best young "risers" from the HS ranks considering a redshirt (Hawthorne) is absurd. He CAN'T be any worse than Kam Williams/Oweh/Aberdeen etc. at this point. Why is this even a ****ing QUESTION? If nothing ELSE, he might be grateful for the chance, and thus, PLAY LIKE HE GIVES A DAMN.
I was rooting for Indiana. When it comes to football, after Louisville and Tennessee, I hate Ohio State third most haha. When I lived in Lexington for 7 years I bet I had 15 or more people say 'I'm a Kentucky basketball fan, and an Ohio State football fan'
F those people, have some loyalty. Also, in my late 20s I lived in Oxford, Ohio for over 2 years...and the Ohio State fans I met were insufferable.
Indiana lost 9 games in 2023. They lost 8 games in 2022.
This guy comes in and they are 24-2 last 2 years.
(Indiana basketball on the other hand, I hope they lose every game unless they are playing Louisville or Duke haha)

My wife's family (on her Mother's side) all live in Columbus. And so I've had more than enough OSU fan 'experience' than anyone deserves. Ohio State fans are, w/o a doubt, the most obtuse and insular college sporting fanbase in the country. Absolutely insufferable in every single way. And, to top it off, politically speaking, complete dunces (my wife's maternal family that is)
This is why I no longer attend the family functions in Columbus. And, not to go into specifics, why I'm no longer invited. Let's just say that there were a string of incidents involving me vs. them that caused the tension. (primarily political LOL)

No. You don't kick them off the team. You take away their playing time. Without playing time, their value drops. Kick em off the team, then they just go somewhere else and you're still out the money you spent on them. They have a contract. Make them respect the terms.
If you can bring in a transfer at semester break that will give the effort and has the heart, bring them in. If you can't, you can't, but the season is toast unless you find a way to get the current guys under contract to play as instructed and as they have shown that they are capable.
These guys cared before they came here. Before the season. Before they lost to Georgetown. What happened after they beat Purdue?
It's clearly not resolved so spill it. Air it out. If it can't be resolved, remove the source. Put them in street clothes on the bench and leave them there.

Btw- this is why the NBA kept kids from e tering the league too soon for a very long time. It's a bad idea to pay kids millions of dollars. Who would have thought there is a logical reason why they also don't let anyone under 21 drink in bars.

Who is "we" in the "paid guys millions statement? It's not me. I didn't and wouldn't pay these guys millions. No one in their right mind would.
Real NIL doesn't work that way. Pay for play works that way, just not with kids. It's a good lesson to learn, but it's a painful one as well. And there's no way you can guarantee the ROI in these situations.
Food for thought. AND I might add, that by making EVERYONE pay Federal income tax (and not just 48 percent of voters, by most estimates) you would, I think, foster more responsible "voting" because people would, you know, actually CARE about just WITF is going ON in DC...

If someone was brought here as a child decades ago and have been productive members of society there should be a path forward for them to become Citizens.

@HymanKaplan I love watching F1 racing but I started pulling for the lesser teams (HAAS) because the top teams winning gets boring. It will be interesting next year with the changes to the cars.
