You can discuss why you don't think interest should be charged on loans. I would like you to explain your reasononong on that. Should be interesting.
I was commenting on y'all's moral structure, not mine, but this is one instance where they happen to align.
Lending money at interest, usury, was common in ancient Mesopotamia. Many people fell into debt slavery. Unregulated this problem was so intense most societies developed laws reining in this predatory relationship. The Jewish community had religious laws governing their society and hence the practice, as already referenced, outright banning it internally. Since it's a sin. (The logic behind this being simple, money is static. Money doesn't work. Money doesn't make money. It sits there.) The early Christian tradition, attributed to Jesus, reformed many of these old religious laws, one of which being the franchise of salvation. Now God's covenant could be shared with all, not just Jews. As such, usury could no longer be practiced externally, as there were no more outsiders to exploit. We're all God's chosen people.
This was the case for all of the Middle Ages (creating the stereotypes we see today because the Jewish community could still lend to outsiders). Until a dude named Martin Luther famously nailed some demands to a door and the rest is history. The church broke apart and lost its influence to the moneyed interests it now needed to court. Luther himself was against usury too, of course, but that got lost in the crossfire.
Meanwhile In the Islamic world they kept on the rails. Mostly. You brought up murabahas, which are one way they deal with the ban. Every individual situation is unique, of course, and some people in certain places are getting ripped off. But the general point is that we shouldn't be taking advantage of our fellow humans. It's a sin. Bad.
Which brings us to today, where capitalism overrides all other concerns. Even moral ones. Usury is celebrated as finance. 'Greed is good!' said Gordon Gekko. And for some it is. Those at the very top. Who keep gulping more and more.
Trump knows this. Because the people know it. This wave of populist (many here would've said communist before Trump did them) policy moves is to drum up support at home for his military adventurism abroad.
Venezuela down, more to come!
PS - You never said why you brought up murabahas, you just immediately changed the subject.
