you have to have a plan A to have a plan B
The only plan B that I could see - would be an escape from Lincoln plan. What do you think?
HCMR is going to get 3-4 years regardless of these threads. Give him more than season before you tar and feather him.
Only if things change does he deserve 3-4 years if this keeps going the way it isHCMR is going to get 3-4 years regardless of these threads. Give him more than season before you tar and feather him.
Playing word association, my first thought for plan B, wasWhat do you think?
I think most people know he's going to get 3-4 years. My bet is a very small minority of fans really believe he could get canned after 1-2 years. Now having said that, I think a lot of fans who were excited about the hire (me) are starting to question if he's the right guy for the job, but I even know he isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Don't know if it's written in stone, but it appears there's an employment expectation in the coaching world that allows a coach to implement their system. Too, nobody really "knows" what results will happen from Riley's tenure, history will be the judge of that.
Edit: There's no reason to have a plan B.
We've already designated a successor. We saw this same thing with Callahan some years ago. Outside guy comes in, doesn't do so hot, people start pining about offensive style and the Nebraska Way if we're going to lose anyway, and so we spent some period of years talking about bringing Pelini back and a few rumblings about Gill.
The only coach with ties to the Husker program is Scott Frost. He's also a hot shot coordinator. He's also the last great hope that fans have in this state, that "the system" will be returned. There are no more Husker ties if Frost flames out.
If Riley fails, its almost a given that the outcry for "Nebraska ties" will be so great, that he's our next coach. Its how we got Pelini, and Pelini had one season of Husker ties.
...unless the Ducks sink into obscurity, which I don't see happening.

That kind of thinking would have continued to doom Meatchicken if it were not for Harbaugh.
Yah but walking around the state today, I think if you polled people, there's almost unwavering belief that Frost is our Harbaugh.

He has had more than a season to prove his worth, there is no way that a staff with this much experience should be producing these kind of results! His record speaks for itself, this nothing more than PR stunt to repair Nebraska's national image. The game has past Coach Riley more than 10 years ago. I wanted Mark gone several years ago, but this was not my idea of a better solution to the Head coaching problem we face.HCMR is going to get 3-4 years regardless of these threads. Hmmm...the voting doesn't appears to inspire much confidence in SE.
If Riley does not work out and we have to hire again - we had better darn sure put some thought into this time. It baffles me how Nu has been just throwing darts at coaches
* Solich - hired because he was here and TO was loyal - Think of the coaches who would have been interested at this point
Callahan - is hired because well he is available after losing a team and being fired - great resume
Pelini is hired because well the fans liked hi in 2003 and he had done pretty well as a DC - no thought of whether he was fit from a recruiting standpoint or from an emotional standpoint and there were warning signs of both
Riley was hired because he is a good guy and at one time schools wanted to hire him - no thought to his recent history or even maybe his reasons for leaving OSU
4 coaches and we interviewed for only one of them the Solich replacement - that search was bungled so bad we ended up taking the first guy we could no matter he was a horrible fit
How do you pay millions of dollars for a coach and do such a crappy job during the selection process. Unorganized no or little input from anyone else - no real thought went into these hires - heck you would find a more thorough process for a $3000/mo office job
Disagree. You should always have a list of names in your desk, because you just never know--unexpected things happen. Sometimes coaches unexpectedly resign (Urban Meyer) or leave for different opportunities. Jeremy Foley was not prepared when Spurrier left Florida and went to the NFL. He threw two hail mary's (Stoops and Shanahan) and then panicked and hired Zook. He has said often times that now he keeps a current list in his desk at all times--because you never know.
I don't think it matters. I don't expect Eichorst to be the one to fire or replace Riley.
Exactly
After Osborne retired, the Nebraska football program should have implemented all out-moneys no object programs for finding the very best coaches and players (recruiting) for our program. They did neither. And after almost 20 years, they still haven't done it.

4-8 this year, a losing season next year....I would bet that MR will be "retired" in Oregon. That said, those that are calling for his head right now....it ain't gonna happen. And it shouldn't.
I think the biggest concern right now has even more to do with the handling of the team off of the fied as it does on it. Mikey botched his chance to to show the is the authority on this team, IMO.
