How many own one? Did you buy it used or new? Any advice?

I am thinking used to save money on the table, but also basically get all the other crap like cues and balls free along with it. I would have it professionally moved and installed.

If you have a strong floor, slate tops are hard to beat. However the other quality tops are pretty good too and it's easier to move because of the lower weight

Do it yourself and save a few bucks. You just need salvaged kitchen table and some old paint cans for this design.

I had a coworker make me an offer I could not refuse on a pool table so I jumped. You can have new rubber put on the side rails for about 300 to eliminate any dead spots if you feel like it might be playing too hard. I used Lexington Billiards and Spas to move my table and install the new rubber and they were fantastic. It's a 14 year old table that plays as well as any I've ever played. I love to put the kids down and go downstairs to shoot a couple racks of 9 ball. You'll also want to get a plastic cover (tarp) if you've got kids and/or pets.

May as well save a bunch of dough and go to Big Lots or Value City and buy a cheap table to pile junk on. After the new wears off the pool table, it's just another flat surface.

All depends on how much you are looking to spend. Are you worried about it looking fancy? For the money it would be hard to beat a valley bar style table. If you want the best go with a Diamond or Brunswick Gold Crown. Don't buy a off brand cheap table, you will be sorry later. You'll also want something with Simonis cloth. There is no substitute.

When I bought one several years ago, I found a barely used one on craigslist. I think I paid about $1200 for the table and then about $300 to get it moved and set up. Also replaced the felt.

My son and I used it for about a year and then we tapered off. Then it just sat there until I got divorced and we sold it.

Bottom line is that if you're going to pay a bunch for one, make sure you will use it. Everyone uses theirs for the first year, but then the fascination wears off.

This is true. If you don't have people over to play or you don't intend to practice enough to be a proffessional, I'd skip it.

Buy or make a Crokinole board. Great winter fun while watching football or basketball with a group. And when the novelty wears off, you can hang it on a wall or store it in a closet.

Slate table, my opinion, is the way to go... There are many out there that are little used good to great tables.... I have one of them...Don't play often...
find someone that can move it and set it up right is a great way to go... Usually those are the same people that sell you a new one...

I have a brand new one from Steepletons. If I had it to do over again I'd buy a nice used one and get more for my money as people came out of the woodwork telling me I could have gotten a great deal from so and so had I waited.

I'm not sure what they tell people to convince them to buy new. Buy a good quality used one and replace the felt. Can't be much worse than new, if at all, and it's a lot cheaper. (I'm assuming a slate table, of course).

That's what I figured. I actually found a real nice Vitalie on Craigslist from a guy who has to move to California next week and the buyer of the home decided last second they did not want it. I will see what kind of a cash deal I can get.
