I feel bad for him and the new CB coach as well. No doubt he has to go. Hired two years ago, been under two totally different DC’s with two different inept schemes. In his one season recruiting did a what is regarded as a good DL class. I know this is going to trigger 4.6.3 — but feel bad for a Husker warrior.

We have to keep him. His guys fight off blocks and make so many plays. Just check out the sack numbers. We have to be near the top.
4.6.3 in all fairness and I will tell you I’m certainly not an expert, but isn’t the DL tasked with eating blocks for the LBs to make the tackle?

Apparently we have devolved into believing that is all they are expected to do (and only because an ex-husker coaches them).
Not a single one of you would forgive their **** effort if it was not an ex-husker. To deny that would be crazy.

Who’s denying? And for the **** effort you evidently haven’t watched this season, the whole team reflects the head coach with their effort.... And I stated he had to go, just unfortunate that he is a husker warrior thrown into a **** storm. Said the same for CB coach.

The DL played much better under Banker/Hughes. It's not even debatable IMO.

Go check out Wisconsin. Not only does their DL eat up blocks to free up the linebackers, but somehow in the midst of eating up blocks they get to the QB... see Suh and Crick 2009. Our DL should look more like that.

I’m not advocating to keep or fire him. I’m ready for this coaching staff to be gone. Now if the new HC wants to keep 1-2, I wouldn’t be totally against it esp if we move back to a 4-3 as that would be his decision to retain them. I just think our current scheme isn’t ideal for DL stats. 4.6.3. I rarely post but have been a mbr for awhile and I enjoy reading your opinion(s) on different topics. I appreciate the good decision.

He has to go too.. it’s been rough up front to say the least
If you had to pick one would you say the DL play being as bad as it is is coaching or scheme. In my opinion I don’t think last year was a good sample size on the type of coach he is or could be I.e. Ross D being a starting DE due to lack of talent/depth

The DL is one of the many glowing problems. John Parrela was not qualified to be a DL coach at a major University. He got he job because he is a former player. He will be fired with the rest of them. If he played his college ball at another school, nobody would give a rats *** about him.

People talk sometimes as if football schemes are rocket science or biochemistry. Geez.
No matter the scheme ... 4-3 or 3-4... certain basic football skills like pad level and leverage, hand placement, foot placement, tackling, shedding blocks are still the same. And for two years now Parella's guys have:
1. generated zero pass rush
2. failed to shed blocks
3. demonstrated poor pad level and leverage
4. failed to maintain the line of scrimmage and allowed offensive lines to push them five yards
5. allowed too many leaky yac yards in the running game

And we would want to retain him? Why?

Because he is a former player and deserves it. In reality, you summed it up quite nicely.
