I don’t attack the school. I’m pretty fair, dude
I do think you’re right that there may be a misunderstanding. My support of Pope is 100% — I have seen nothing that gives me long term concerns. He has yet to prove himself as a defensive coach, but in 2025 your coach doesn’t have to do it all. My complaints at the defense has a simple solution. If it isn’t great by year’s end you fire the D Coordinator and find one that works. I’m still over the moon about Pope personally. I was begging for years to have a coach that plays a modern style offense, analytics focused and adapts to the landscape. We are very similar in what we do as far as UK goes. Not sure what your old handle was, but nah you’re not unfair.
I think where we’re missing each other here is in weighing the importance of Pope being our ambassador into this. Pope is about more than typical coaching wine and losses. He’s the future protector of this program. Mike is gone, Joe is gone, Riley is too old to be an influence after all these years. Those 3 guys were a large part of the reason Calipari was at UK. The UK athletic department is judt fudd been counter make a buck landlords. Those guys had the power to move them out of the way with a few boosters and themselves forcing it through.
Cal will never have power at UK and his players are NBA centered. They’re not like the Hall guys. The Pitino guys are the ones that must be the gatekeepers now. I don’t think people realize how important Pope is to this program. Without him in the future and his future players don’t the line I don’t know where this would end up. Family and program must be sustained by the men who love Kentucky basketball.
So that’s why I’m waiting far more patiently.
I guess it really shouldn’t be a shock when you have a bunch of 18-22 year olds making 7 figures. The players and coaches had a front row seat to a big *** KICKING in Louisville and now er are hearing nothing but BS and double speak. This sounds and feels way too much like Calipari's last 10 years. Is Pope's culture change all talk and NO performance? Are they players driving the bus now? Pope said his players, had poor body language, lost focus and did not follow the game plan. Seems like a rerun of the past 10 years.
DeflectionI still don't get why Pope brought up something upsetting happening before the game but not saying what it was. What was the point?
You’re exactly right brotherim gonna get hate for it but i hate that we made 2 schools significantly better in this process
He is exactly like Cal as far as coach speak. But they all are.
But his first year was not better than two 2 seeds in Cal’s last five years.
And ‘20 won the SEC by 3 games. Certainly not better than that.
