Not a fan of how Coach Pope answered the post game questions from Tom Leach.
Careful careful Mr. Pope
Thats advisement. Ask Billy G.

virtually nothing. He seemed to be pouting, talked like he was totally beaten downWhat was said?
Well, I can’t imagine he’d go in there like, “Hell yeah! We showed some real fight.” That performance was bad enough that walking in with a hump and barely breathing out words is the only reasonable optionvirtually nothing. He seemed to be pouting, talked like he was totally beaten down
He knows it’s over
To me it demonstrates that he has no concept of understanding real talent. He thought this team would be awesome. Losing Lowe is not a good enough an excuse when you have the depth that Pope bragged about.Well, I can’t imagine he’d go in there like, “Hell yeah! I’m way too depressed to argue, but Michigan State isn’t a talented team either. They had the 23rd best recruiting class and no standout talent. The difference is, and I know this sucks, Izzo — even at this washed up age—is a hundred times the tactician than Pope. It’s sadTo me it demonstrates that he has no concept of understanding real talent. He thought this team would be awesome. But he got an extra year for getting into the sweet 16 last year. That’s around another $3.5 Million to buyout. Dumbass Mitch. He knows it’s over
Sure sounded like it.He knows it’s over
Exactly. He failed everyone talking about how great this team was going to be. Comparing it to the 1996 team. This team would not be able to compete with the 1996 team.To me it demonstrates that he has no concept of understanding real talent. He thought this team would be awesome. Idk how Mitch still has a job. His defenders always point to the less popular sports success but never the major sports that matter the most. But he got an extra year for getting into the sweet 16 last year. That’s around another $3.5 Million to buyout. Dumbass Mitch.
The 96 team would hang 86 points on these guys in the first half.Exactly. He failed everyone talking about how great this team was going to be. Comparing it to the 1996 team. This team would not be able to compete with the 1996 team.
We had a golden opportunity to put all our money in on basketball and pass UCLA while the door was wide open but instead we can win 6 games in football and have a damn good women’s rugby teamIdk how Mitch still has a job. His defenders always point to the less popular sports success but never the major sports that matter the most.
I think this is part of it. I looked out there tonight and saw a bunch of guys that were backups at their previous schools and showed flashes when they did get minutes. It's like Pope and staff saw those flashes and thought that was who they could be for an entire game/year. The only guy who somewhat did it was Oweh but even he had his first breakout year last year.To me it demonstrates that he has no concept of understanding real talent. He thought this team would be awesome. Losing Lowe is not a good enough an excuse when you have the depth that Pope bragged about.
Mitch hiring him was cruel. He wouldn’t have even gotten an interview with his resume, certainly not being given the keys to one of the premier college. basketball programs if he weren’t a former player.Didn't listen, but I feel bad for him. I mean, we know this is his dream job, and at this moment, he is completely failing. It is what it is but on a human level it's rough.

We need to be thinking about a new coach and quickthis
I laughed at this. Not because I find it funny in a technical sense or that I disagree with you, but because it is likely true and that it only took barely over a season to have to acknowledge it.He knows it’s over
What’s he gonna say? I told them to keep playing drop coverage even though we were getting our asses beat.Tom….”what did you tell your guys in the locker room after the loss?”
pope….”a bunch of stuff”
Hopefully boosters step in to put an end to this experiment. They certainly won’t be giving Pope another $20 million next year. But he got an extra year for getting into the sweet 16 last year. That’s around another $3.5 Million to buyout. Dumbass Mitch.
Even if Pope goes on to be the greatest coach in UK history, that was still a stupid move. Why risk it at this point? This is Pope's dream job, so it's not like we have to worry about someone taking him from us. Let him demonstrate sustained success first. But he got an extra year for getting into the sweet 16 last year. That’s around another $3.5 Million to buyout. Dumbass Mitch.
So he really said this team was comparable to 1996?Exactly. He failed everyone talking about how great this team was going to be. Comparing it to the 1996 team. This team would not be able to compete with the 1996 team.
Well the touchy feely grab *** lean in to each other wasn’t what many wanted to hear.Theirs nothing the man can say after that *** whipping that would make any fan feel better. That was awful…. BCG like performance

And Mitch gave him a huge raise and auto extensions for getting to he Fing sweet 16.Mitch hiring him was cruel. He wouldn’t have even gotten an interview with his resume, certainly not being given the keys to one of the premier college. basketball programs if he weren’t a former player.
Maybe it's a situation of not wanting to follow after a HoF coach. After Pope flames out this season or next, the pressure may lower enough to attract good coachesWe had no one else. Even mid tier guys like Scott Drew said "thanks but no thanks".
That is troublesome. For such a storied program, we sure dont seem to have people lining up to coach here .
It can be both, and in this case, I think it is. He’s not done a good job at all coaching up what he does have to work with so far, but that doesn’t completely let him off the hook with roster construction either. This was sold as a loaded roster that could just straight up out talent most of college basketball that hasn’t looked anything like that so far even with suboptimal coaching tactics.I’m way too depressed to argue, but Michigan State isn’t a talented team either. No matter how you slice it, it is 100% on Pope and nothing else. I disagree that it’s the roster—-if he knew how to coach it, all the pieces are there. But if you say roster, fine—-that’s still 100% on PopeIt can be both, and in this case, I think it is. That’s not true. Drew and Hurley were the only two that turned the job down. This is Kentucky, Mitch could have hired a coach with a better resume. We had no one else. Even mid tier guys like Scott Drew said "thanks but no thanks".
