It is amazing how coaches can talk out both sides of their mouth. By the way Saturday practice was great everyone working so hard would have been great if we played a game on Saturday not Friday

The pressure of Kentucky basketball on slightly better than average players is enormous and creates the recipe for disaster. We have players who, despite what they are being paid, know that our team is not top-tier. They know that, no matter how well they play in any given game, their chances of beating top teams are low, especially on the road. Realistically, they know we are not as talented a team as BBN expects and NIL$$$ demands. To me, this is a sad reality, but it is how I honestly see it.

The Indiana game is a MUST WIN game, imho.

Here's $0.02 from a first time poster (and a UK alum!) ... I don't think Pope gets canned mid-season. In fact, I highly suspect he'll get a third year. Buckle up, this could get rough!
Depends on if he saves the year or we end up crashing into an NIT or worse, a losing season. You can’t bring back Pope if you end up taking a $20 million roster to a losing record. Boosters would revolt.

A mid season firing is what we need to conduct a proper search. The final four is when coaches are hired generally. Waiting until the season ends by the. Coaches are locked in new deals. I guess Barney has to get canned first that’s what might save pipe. If they can Barney and the athletic department is paralyzed.

You can start the process of looking for other coaches while keeping the current coach until the end of the season. If you’re the boosters of the program (without the AD involved) you start putting out feelers for specific coaches and when the season ends and Pope (hopefully) steps down, you know which ones want to be hired.

All the analysis and discussion about what's wrong w/ this team...and it's all overcomplicated the issue. It's simple. It's a total failure of roster construction. A cobbled together collection of role players who simply can't compete at a high level. No dudes. No NBA-level talent. No super-skilled guys who other teams need to scheme against or prepare to defend. It was just an unfathomable recruiting and evaluation whiff. Which doesn't reflect well on Pope going forward.

And how many coaches do you think will line up to coach a school that fired a guy in a year and a half?

It depends on why he was fired. We pulled Calipari after 6 months further than that. So what? If it’s a disaster it’s a disaster. They’ll know he wasn’t fired for simply not winning. He would be fired for a f’n disaster on and off the court.

So we’ve fired them after 2 years and we became the hottest team in the country over night. Pretty much answers your question.

There is a lot bad going on here. Might be a Gillispie level collapse and if it is then he needs to go. Great coaches that want it will just be glad they didn’t have to wait.

I know… at least Cal was funny. He knew how to talk to a room. Always confident. He could really have some good press conferences when things go well for sure. Later on past Covid he started getting short and smart with everyone but in his prime nobody was better at media. Still can be.

Everyone who can shoot can’t do anything else, everyone who can drive can’t shoot and pass. Agreed, it’s a total failure of everyone.
