What if Butler goes down with another injury?

Wouldn’t we all be upset that Perry and Chandler weren’t getting minutes to be more prepared to help the team?

After losing Butler Carr Jax etc for extended games, it makes sense to me that you try and put the bench in for extended minutes to help be prepared.

I haven’t been upset with lineups - it’s the couple of games where the entire team just hasn’t looked ready to compete/fight/etc that worries me.

Okay, so you jumped into the middle of a conversation you obviously don't understand. It's not about last nights game, it's about what will happen going forward if he continues to do a hockey line change with the bench we currently have.
LSU sucks and they immediately went on a run. Do that in the NCAAT and the outcome might be very different.
[/QUOTI think I'll trust coach Pope's judgement on this one

What if anybody goes down? It's a problem, but we're in March now, you have to play the lineups that give you the best chance to win.

If Butler, Williams, or Oweh go down with an injury, well, we have major problems, because their backups aren't ready and there is no more time left to all the sudden turn them into something they just aren't going to be this year.

Garrison is not going to fill Williams' shoes.

Perry is not half the player Butler is and that isn't going to change this year.

Noah isn't even close to filling Oweh's shoes, that's a massive drop off.

Almanor is not going to give you what Carr gives you every night and that's not debatable.

The bench guys are what they are, but thats not the issue, the issue is when Pope plays the bench guys all at the same time. LSU is awful and even they went on an immediate run the second Pope put those guys in.

Play them, just not at the same time.

Yeah and if you notice, Pope never went back to the hockey line change the rest of the game, he subbed one at a time and look what happened.

You know, Pope is going to make mistakes, he's not perfect and if you think I'm the only one talking about the hockey line change being a bad idea, you're just not paying attention.

Just use common sense really, I mean, do you honestly think a lineup of Perry, Noah, Garrison, Almonor and one of the starters, is a good lineup? Just answer that question and we'll go from there.

Just for generic consumption, when we win it is because pope followed the direction of the serial complainers here, but when we lose it is because pope played too many people, people played the wrong number of minutes, the lineups were wrong, yadda yadda yadda. Things like talent differential, injuries, etc cannot be factored into the criticism. And Lord oh Lord if the team just plays poorly the reason is the head coach.

For years, Cal-fans told us we were wrong for calling out the things Cal was doing that was driving the program into the ground, where are all those fans at now?

Here's a simple question none of you guys will answer. I know why y'all wont answer it, but who knows, maybe you will.

Do you think a lineup of Perry, Noah, Garrison, Almonor and one of the starters, is a good lineup?

Question for you. How many minutes have they alone played together all season? And when they did how was the foul situation of others? Were other players overly fatigued at the time? Was pope trying to reward 1 or 2 of them for earlier good play? In other words, why at those moments did pope have them in together?

He does it every game before the first tv timeout. Have you not been watching?
Can't count how many times our starters came out with good energy and got a lead, then Pope put the backups in and the momentum disappeared. This isn't a mid major league, you can get away with that in the wcc, but it won't work in the SEC.
My hope is that he saw enough Tuesday night when LSU scored 6 points in less than a minute. He didn't go back to that strategy again the rest of the game.

We're seeing things much differently, I'm sure if it had been a close game you would have a new spin regarding how you ***** and moan.

No, I'm saying one thing and it doesn't matter if we won in a blowout, or lose by 2, it is a bad idea to pull 4 or 5 of our starters out simultaneously and play any combination of Perry, Noah, Garrison, Chandler and Almanor together.

This is common sense, you don't have to be a seasoned NVA coach to understand this.

Let's all send letters to pope recommending lineups. The fact that we have no insider info should not matter dammit. Apparently he can't tell which lineups are working.

So you're just going to cry like a baby and throw a fit, because I have an opinion?

Cool, you think it's a good idea to play Noah, Perry, Garrison, Almanor and Chandler at the same time against SEC competition, I don't. I think those guys should be mixed in one at a time to rest the starters.

Your issue is, you're just upset because I am saying I believe this is a mistake (it is) and it hurts your feelings. Do you know why I say that? Because you have yet to actually debate what I'm saying. All you keep saying is dumb ****, like "I guess you're a better coach", but you refuse to debate what I'm saying.

I'll ask again:

Do you think it is a good idea to play Noah, Perry, Garrison, Almanor and Chandler at the same time against SEC competition, or in the NCAAT?

Just answer that one question. I've asked multiple times, you won't answer it. Why?

I cant take any poster seriously that's already ready to give up on Pope.

He could very well flame out. But less than a year into his time here is not the deadline to figure that out.

Substitution patterns could be all about the long game. Getting Chandler some valuable minutes. Same with Noah/Perry. This is what 90% of BBN wanted....guys that stick around and develop into really good college players.

The disdain for Cal had been warranted for a few years....for MANY reasons. If you are already on Popes *** about everything, you're a freaking moron.

I can see Perry and Noah developing into Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer at Purdue. Not because they're white, but because they play hard, but are 4 year guys that have athletic limitations when it comes to the competition they play against.
They win some, because they're well coached, but get them in open space trying to defend an arhletic guard and it's a problem.
I agree and think those guys will develop more strength and speed with time. I believe they will be very good players for us.

No doubt the substitution patterns are about the long game. If you go watch Pearl in the pregame for Kentucky, he laid out the benefit of playing so many guys and how to build depth. That’s exactly what Pope is doing and it will help us tremendously going forward.

See my earlier posts to you
So you want me to do a study to find out all the answers to these stupid questions, just because I said doing a hockey line change with who we have on the bench, is a bad idea??? Do you not understand what I'm saying?

At the 3 minute mark, the entire starting lineup has never been in foul trouble, so what question makes no sense.

All I'm saying is, sub these guys one at a time. Good lord, you're acting like I said I wanted Pope ****-canned.

Yes, those questions. And we both know you can't answer them because you don't know diddly about the players or situations where pope made those decisions. So, you feel it is okay to question our coach in a disrespectful way but you get upset when you are called out on it. Maybe I'm too harsh to you but I guess it is because I have huge faith in what pope will do. For a long time I was critical of Cal, with his favoritism, contempt for the fans, inability to defend out of bounds plays, failure to adjust to the 3 point line, and exceedingly high losses for our talent level, etc. The difference is I judged him after many years. You are not judging pope in the same manner. If pope underachievs bbn will let him know, till then give him a chance. To me he has overachieved greatly this year based on the talent level, injuries, and strength of the league.

We're talking about 2 different things. This has nothing to do with foul trouble, or fatique. There is no fatique or foul trouble at the 3 minute mark of the first half.

You're just being difficult.

There is absolutely zero reason to do a hockey line change at any point in the game with the bench we have.

If Oweh picks up a 2nd foul, fine, put Chandler in, but you don't swap the entire lineup and put our B team on the floor at the same time.

There's a reason Pope didn't do a second hockey line change Tuesday night, when you figure it out, let.me know.

Now, answer my question:

Is Perry, Noah, Chandler, Garrison and Almanor a good lineup to have on the floor against SEC competition, or in the NCAAT? Obviously you don't, or you would have answered this question already.

Pope is as stubborn and idiotic about lineups as Cal was.
with so many injuries it seems to me to just play them all in the first half to see whos hitting shots and whos not. Playing games with no PG, centers who play well and who doesnt and freshman who. may show up or disappear.
