Just a few short weeks and the portal opens up.

133 or 141: Whichever weight Bailey decides not to go. I've seen Cruz or Petersen mentioned as starters but that is not good enough in my opinion.

149: Believe Ryder heads to 57 and Williams is done at Iowa. So, either Estrada or a transfer. Could be wrong but I see Estrada as a really good backup for 49 and 57 but not a AA type and certainly not high AA. If Hawks land a really good 57, I guess Ryder would man 49 again.

165: Cant really replace a guy like Cali but going to have to try. This one I will throw out a name, hoping Joey Blaze makes the decision to leave that nothing wrestling program and join the Hawks, maybe roll around with Cali. Oh, and bring your bro to fill another needed weight.

I would give anything to see Ty Watters at Iowa. But it's pretty damn unlikely I'd say. I'm not so sure how well we can do tempting kids to transfer unless there's a fat bag of cash that comes with their new singlet. The public opinions towards Iowa seem to be trending downward over the last several years. I coach kids ages 8 thru high school and most kids are falling towards Oklahoma State, Ohio State, or PSU. Not sure if that matters really, but throwing out what I see and experience over here on the west coast.

Will be an interesting next few weeks to see who jumps in. I wonder if Penn St or Ohio St have any deflections… Braeden Davis would make most sense. He’d probably be Michigan bound. Not sure if either Blaze would truly look else where. I could see Marcus going up to 141 and Desmond takes over at 133. Bouzakis I’d imagine he’d want to go up to 133 somewhere.

I think Williams is most likely out at Iowa. I could see Cruz look elsewhere. Got to hit 133 or 141. 149 157 and 165 as well. I think Estrada when healthy is underestimated. Plus with anyone incoming you just don’t truly know.

No more fat bags of cash due to the clearinghouse, with the goal of no pay-to-play.

This is the first cycle with the new system, it’s gonna be interesting to see how it shakes out. I’m guessing fewer transfers.

With the clearinghouse absolutely correct.

I’d still argue the market value of an NIL sponsorship outside of rev share is still higher at Iowa everywhere except Oklahoma state and maybe Penn state.

Ryder will be at 149 or 157, should only be looking at one weight there. Definitely need a 65, I don't even know if Cali had a backup because he never got injured or took a rest except SS this year.

Larkins would be the perfect duo just because each is a need weight. And neither all-Americaned this year when both should have done so, but I still can't see them leaving ASU. They'll probably be some all-Americans we don't expect that decide they want greener pastures so who knows who will enter at this point. The only things for certain are AJ will enter and Iowa will find an excuse to not let him on the team again and Endene will fleece somebody else out of money before quitting on them again.

Tom’s comments in his post NCAAs interview didn’t seem to close the door on Williams. He referenced guys who were in position battles responding the right way and getting to work for next year to control what they can control.

Going forward, Hawks wont be competing with PSU or Pokes for portals or recruits at least for a few years. They are loaded and may be having talent leaving current rosters. The competitors for a few years will be VT, ISU, Ohio St, Nebby etc and what their needed weights may be. Im hoping Hawks are in a good position to make some big moves in the portal. There's a great recruited class in a few years but going to need help at lower and middle weights for a few years.

Teams are going to be hesitant on Endene. May not get the big pay day he is thinking.

In this portal environment, PSU might take on quality guys just to keep them from other teams. That would be very Carlish thing to do.

Endene? Are you serious?
Yes. Remember when Gabe Arnold was kicked off the team not long ago? And now he's an All American for Iowa.

Remember when Montell Marrion was "permanently suspended" from the team? History has shown guys can and do come back after leaving the team.

Endene on the team this year might have meant a 3rd place finish instead of 4th.

I would like to see portal guys brought in that are current freshman or sophomores. Give them a couple years to acclimate and become multi year fixes instead of 1 year rentals. That allows the next two years to focus on recruiting, which is the true answer to Iowa's current problem.

I like the Joey Blaze thought. Impact transfer for sure.

I find it weird how he will say in one breath "it's just a game, wrestling isn't that important" but then turn around and do things like this demonstrating how intensely important it is for him to win. Seems like female style manipulation.

My thoughts:

why would Block go 157? He should start the season ranked #4 behind Valencia, SVN and whoever beat him for 5th. 157 has Duke/Kasak, Robideau, Taylor, Larkin, Cannon, Webster, etc. all coming back. At 149, Block could win a title. At 157 he’s lucky to AA. Also, he wrestled 138 in high school, I get going up to 149, but why all the way to 157?

I think Iowa needs a 133 and 165 the most. My issue with bringing someone in at 133 and 157 though is there is so much young talent who probably won’t leave the schools, we would be paying a lot for a low AA or R12. Whoever we bring in at 157 would be lucky to AA. Whoever we bring in at 133 would be lucky to AA behind Forrest, Davino, Blaze, Seidel, Van Dee, Knox. So we’d drop 6 figures for maybe a 7th place finish?

If I could pick two to come, it would be the Larkin brothers. Though, they probably aren’t leaving because their dad was national champ there. So then if I could pick two, it would be Nicco Ruiz of ASU and Tyler Knox of Stanford. Both have 2 years left and AA’ed this year.

Leo DeLuca
#5 Tyler Knox
#5 Nasir Bailey
#4 Ryder Block
#8-12 Jordon Williams
#2 Nicco Ruiz
#5 Gabe Arnold
#3 Angelo Ferrari
Harvey Ludington
#2 Ben Kueter

I could get behind that lineup!

One thing, Im guessing Bassett starts out at 149 next year and leaps ahead of most if not all of that weight.

Very good point about bringing in a 133 and 157. A possible option is to bring in a 141 and drop Bailey down if he stays and could make the cut. I could see Jax moving up but even if he does that weight class is loaded.
