Solar storm is at Kp8 now so anyone above the red line has a good chance for Northern Lights
The Northern Lights were visible here in Berks County. This is a view from Blue Marsh.

Their on mine. My wife is also on board. It's the 15k to go to Churchill that is making it challenging
. We most likely will look at Alaska, Alberta, BC, or Norway. Lesser odds to see polar bears as well, but Winnipeg (drivable) has nice zoo (best for polar bears?).You can see them in northern Minnesota, but it's way too random. They also aren't as spectacular.

I thought it was cool using the "black card" trick to get multiple bursts of fireworks in one image. Night and star photography are at a whole difference level. Even with a nice mono stick or tripod.
Do you shoot night urban scenes? I tried to learn it years ago. It was pretty cool to use a starburst (goes by other names) filter.

Churchill Manitoba is very remote. It's pretty much fly in or train. There are cars in Churchill, but no roads that far north in that area. Usually people use charter services. The thought was/ is to time it so that we could see some wildlife and also see the Northern lights of course. I've been in a tundra buggy/ vehicle before, so If/ when it gets closer to being a reality, I may see what other options are out there.

Best of luck to all hoping to see the Aurora live! I was very fortunate to see it without even trying… in the summer of’81 I was taking a class at the University of Vermont, and did some hiking while in the area. A friend and I decided to drive over to New Hampshire to hike Mt Washington, the highest mountain in the region… We drove over the day before and rented a nearby campsite, in the woods at the crest of a small hill… as we layed down to sleep under the stars, we noticed something going on in the sky, and realized it was the Aurora…and were able to watch it for some time….it looked like the sky was on fire…and the contrast between the visual spectacle and the absolute silence of it was stunning!
Maybe? For some reason I thought that you took some outstanding pictures (landscapes) and posted some here a while ago.
Regarding urban scapes, I was just aimlessly babbling. Always thought that sunburst filters made lights and or stars/ the moon look kind of cool. I brought that up to also see if you have branched out from that and taken any panoramic or city photos.

For some of the sunbursts from light sources, you don't have to use any special filters. Just try an fstop of f11 or smaller.

Thanks! I bought one several years ago. It was inexpensive, and I used it while playing with an old Canon digital camera. Hoping to be able to make time to take pictures this spring.
Edit: Yes, I remember the photos from Banff/ Canmore. Awesome.
There wasn’t much to do in Iceland back in 82-84. They hadn’t opened up their country like it is today. But, they were breathtaking to see some nights. Always very nice to look at. But, when they jump and move around it was awesome.
Anyone heading to Erie for the upcoming solar eclipse (April 8)? I considered it but, with my luck, it would be overcast ... or rain. My staying away should increase the chances for the rest of you seeing it.
My best friend is headed there. I'll tip my cap to you if he has clear skies for the event. I'm heading to the Buffalo area to view it with a relative.
