Alleghanys 4 fumbles on qb fullback handoffs and interception is difference in game. Defense cant hold em forever when every other possession u turn the ball over. Only thing ive seen that got better from spring ball is punt team. Defense is pretty good. Offense is same 5 plays over and over and over like every season.
Is there a hint of the old Thomasville here?

I chose to take an optimistic view going into the season but tonight just reflects the reality that Murphy is going to miss Nelson coaching the defense big time and they'll miss Thompson coaching the line too. Obviously losing Gentry matters but had the rest of the staff stayed together I honestly think they would've kept humming. Watson called a good game offensively but turnovers and player miscues killed a bunch of drives. Rumfelt did not look near 100% either, which certainly impacted things as well.
Bottomline just too many hits to the coaching staff in one offseason, going to be a long season ahead I'm afraid. Maybe Watson can get some assistants in during the next offseason, he's going to have to find his own equalivent of Gaither/Nelson to run the defense though if this has any chance of working out long term. I'll see ya'll boys next season God willing, MBD out.

Robbinsville 45
The score reflects a lot “closer” ball game than what it really was. Robbinsville may have had 5 total negative yardage plays. Asheville had athletes all over the field. I thought for the most part that both teams were good sports. At least until the end I hear. Good luck to Asheville the rest of the way. Something about that SMC football.

That’s as bad of a loss and I have seen Asheville high have in 20 years. That is about as pathetic of a display that you can possibly have. To have that team with our quality of players, to travel to a team with great tradition 2 hours away and do that is downright pitiful. These guys should be ashamed of themselves for that. A 4A school not just losing to a 1A school, but getting stomped is unacceptable. It seems like 100 years ago when Asheville high was a legitimate power and there is no evidence that will change any time soon. We lost to enka in 2012, other than that, this is probably the worst loss I can think of off the top of my head. I only wish robbinsvile had beat us worse just to twist the knife in. What a PATHETIC display of football…. And we’ve have a lot the last 6 years

I'll still post the PickEm every week because I started it, but other than that, yes I'm stepping away for the year. I'd rather spend time with my family than invest time and energy on something that's likely going to make me aggravated and grumpy. Lol

Dang “ don’t take this the wrong way” how are we supposed to take it. Sorry you lost to a team and program like Robbinsville. We’re working hard on making Robbinsville a respectable program ( like Asheville’s) but obviously have some work to do. Hopefully we turn the corner this year. Lets put it in perspective- take all the girls in the freshman class at Asheville and that’s about the total student body at Robbinsville. You sir are correct that’s a terrible loss . You should petition to drop the program because when you lose at the big oaks you’ve hit rock bottom. My condolences sir. If agree with you 100% . This football thing isn’t working out for you guys at all but if it makes you feel better you’d be a solid top 5 SMC team year after year.
Which is why I put the closer in quotations. The game was never in doubt. I’m just saying it could have been a lot worse.
Man dont be so hard on your team..ANYONE in the state of North Carolina that knows anything about football knew this could probably happen. The top 2 or 3 teams in the SMC can beat any team in WNC on any given night. The SMC is truly a powerhouse conference in this state. You got beat by a team with 15 state championships. Robbinsville and Murphy will 3 yard a team to death and then catch them playing totally against the run and before you know it you get beat deep on passes..Its a different kind of football out here.
