South Carolina's men's basketball season may not be over after all, due to the strength of the SEC this year. An NIT bid is possible, and USC would accept.

It would be the most Gamecock thing ever for this team to fall *** backwards into the NIT after having a historically bad season and then actually go on some kind of run and come away with a trophy for a season that no fan wants to remember.

It can't be worse than the attendance for the 2016 NIT bid. The CLA was EMPTY for the game against Georgia Tech. ESPN has the announced attendance at 2856, so you know the actual attendance was probably 800. I was one of those 800, by the way.

This is exactly what the high school football playoffs have become in South Carolina.

It is downright embarrassing.

We should have a little dignity and decline an invite. I just can't wrap my head around taking something you didn't earn. Granted, the NIT is only make believe postseason play, but accepting the invite still conveys some sense of feeling as though you earned the chance to play in the postseason.

This would be the "everyone gets a trophy" syndrome on steroids.

However, I do have to say, it would be the most hilarious thing in the history of our university if this travesty of a men's team ended the season wit a trophy but the women did not.

It would speak volumes of what we really think of ourselves if we accepted an NIT bid. In short, it would mean we don't think much of ourselves at all. And maybe we shouldn't. We have no history to speak of in basketball. The McGuire heyday is dusty, ancient history. Irrelevant at this point.

So, I dunno. Maybe we should go to the NIT and firmly embrace our nothing status.

From the sound of Paris the other night on his call in show I can’t see Carolina accepting any postseason bid.Extra practices won’t matter if virtually the entire team will be new next year as I suspect it will be.
